Substance Abuse Youth Counselor - Adolescent

Summary:

The Youth Counselor provides enrichment services and support to at-risk youth and their family members. Reports to outpatient services coordinator.

Qualifications:

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. Effective communication skills. General knowledge of Substance Abuse treatment methods and principles. Skilled in counseling and motivating students and others. Computer literate. Trained to facilitate various program curricula (training may be provided). Valid California Driver’s License and evidence of insurance coverage; current CPR and First Aid certificates. Professional appearance and pleasant mannerism. Must pass criminal background check.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct education sessions with specified curriculum.
• Provide Individual and group counseling.
• Work collaboratively with case management team.
• Document program activities.
• Generate required reports
• Interact with probation departments; school districts and other outside agencies.
• Weekly charting and all other paperwork in compliance with agency, state and county guidelines.

· All other duties deemed necessary and appropriate by management.

· Maintain compassion, empathy, and professionalism toward clients; their family members and/or significant others at all times.

· Attend all required agency staff and training meetings.

· Adhere to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness.

· Ensure the highest level of service is provided to the people we serve.

· Maintain client confidentiality in compliance with federal guidelines, including HIPAA regulations.

· Adhere to staff Codes of Ethics and Conduct.

· Adhere to policies and procedures set forth for agency.

· Adhere to all safety and housekeeping standards established by IVRS.

· Must have knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and standards governing all services provided by IVRS.

Essential Job Functions:

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators and fax machines.
• Must be able to prepare correspondence.
• Must be able to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
• Must be able to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Experience:

• Addiction counseling: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

• Certification addiction (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• San Bernardino, CA 92410: Relocate before starting work (Required)
