Job description

The Studio Media Specialist will be responsible to manage programming for Children's National's new internal broadcast media center. The job will focus on encouraging hospitalized children to explore the creative realms of radio, television and new media. Responsibilities include to develop programming and be an on-air personality for the closed-circuit radio station and in-room TV channel. This position will supervise media interns and volunteers and engage patients in media activities. The position will require working closely with other departments to develop content, schedule and broadcast live and pre-recorded shows.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
4 years Related experience required
Experience using AV/Audio equipment
Experience interacting with children (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Technical skills and the ability to work well with hospitalized kids.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of television and radio equipment and software.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to create and edit content for print and electronic publication.
Understand and support family-centered care.
Functional Accountabilities
Program Management and Partnerships

  • Develop program by building necessary relationships with the appropriate resources.
  • Work with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and the Child Life department to develop and grow the program. Serve as an internal resource, consultant and liaison to patients/families, staff, physicians/faculty , and/or the community for issues related to the program. Direct the ongoing development, implementation, coordination, marketing and evaluation of program outcomes.
  • Co-Chair the Advisory Group, which will be made up of adolescent patients and representatives from various departments within the hospital.
Program Content
  • Develop and produce live and pre-recorded program content for television broadcasts and radio broadcasts.
  • Work with child life staff and patients in the pre-production and production of weekly live shows.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate educational, creative and therapeutic modalities into patient programming
  • Provide on-site support and/or 'talent' during live television and/or radio broadcasts and activities.
  • Facilitate patient participation in media broadcasts and/or therapeutic projects with individual patients and/or groups when schedule permits.
  • Facilitate patient participation in broadcasts held throughout the hospital.
  • Co-produce "therapeutic video" projects with individual patients and/or groups.
  • Inform patients, families and staff of opportunities for program participation and equipment utilization.
Technology
  • Work with television and radio equipment and software.
  • Identify and create proper signal flow of audio and video paths to minimize technical problems during live broadcasts.
  • Troubleshoot audio/video problems during live and The Seacrest Studios broadcasts.
  • Report technical problems to appropriate people with necessary follow-up. Facilitate a consistent and effective setup for each production.
  • Research video technology developments and recommend upgrades to equipment and software as appropriate/needed and if budget allows.
  • Monitor and maintain studio equipment, scheduling repairs and or upgrades as needed, track supplies ordered for the studio.
Data
  • Track broadcast program statistics, number of callers, number of units, etc., and provide reports to supervisor and director upon request.
  • Create weekly and monthly broadcast schedule in collaboration with the Child Life department staff and other departments in the hospital
  • Provide broadcast schedule to child life staff for posting in unit playrooms.
  • Identify events that would lend themselves to being aired.
Training
  • Orient and train students and volunteers to support media broadcasts. Train others on equipment and software.
  • Co-manage the student internship program in collaboration with other studio staff members
