Brookhaven Lab's Computational Science Initiative(CSI) excels at integrating Computer Science, applied mathematics, and computational science with broad domain expertise to tackle problems and advance knowledge impacting scientific discovery. CSI has long focused on timely analysis and interpretation of high-volume, high-velocity heterogeneous data, providing solutions for the national and international scientific community. These efforts now are being augmented by CSI's growing high-performance computing capabilities.
CSI is seeking a Student Assistant for summer employment. The Student Assistant will participate in modeling and simulation of GPUs and/or novel hardware accelerators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the research in modeling and simulation of domain specific accelerators for scientific computing and/or emerging device technologies.
- Test and experiment with developed data-driven/machine-learning-based approaches for modeling and simulation.
- Collaborate with researchers within and outside of Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Solid analysis and problem solving skills
- Good written and oral communications
- Student currently pursuing a related Master’s or Doctorate degree
- Proficient in modeling and simulation, or machine learning
- Proficient in one or more programming languages such as C/C++ and Python
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with scientific modeling and/or scientific computing
- Knowledge about computer architecture & system
Other Information:
Student assistants may not work more than 19 hours per week during the academic year or while classes are in session.
