KHOU 11 in Houston is seeking a Community Projects Specialist
KHOU has a 70-year history of celebrating and serving with our community and we are looking for someone who is passionate about helping us Stand For Houston through our community initiatives. You will work directly with the Director of Local Programming & Community Marketing on sponsored community campaigns, opportunities to increase KHOU's brand awareness through sponsorships/partnerships, and activations associated with big events taking place in our city.
This role requires a creative, organized, and results-oriented individual who has a positive attitude and enjoys working with others to make a difference in our community.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and execute KHOU 11's community impact campaigns with the goal of increasing the numbers of people we serve
- Manage internal communications with all station departments to ensure the successful execution of KHOU's tentpole community campaigns
- Work directly with clients and nonprofit partners on all aspects of our community campaigns
- Identify opportunities and develop strategies to successfully engage the community in supporting our campaigns
- Lead and manage employee volunteer efforts with station-sponsored community campaigns and initiatives
- Write and produce PSA's and segments for our daily talk show Great Day Houston as needed
- Manage the TEGNA Foundation grant submission process and the reviewing of all applications received
- Plan and organize station activations at community events to help build KHOU brand awareness and brand affinity
- Oversee the development of collateral materials (on-air, digital, print, etc.) associated with the station's sponsorship of community events and projects
- Effectively utilize KHOU's strong digital and social media platforms to promote community projects/sponsorships
- Serve as a liaison between the community and station talent with appearances and emcee requests
- Write and distribute press releases pertaining to station news, talent, and other staff
- Use Wide Orbit to pull value recaps for sponsored campaigns and community partnerships
- Represent the station on community committees where appropriate and as needed
- Assist with ordering and managing the department's expense budget for promotional items
- Responsible for planning and organizing station tours/visits
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in Media, Marketing, or Community Relations
- Goal-oriented with strong leadership qualities; ability to motivate and engage cross-department team members on multiple projects
- Comfortable and confident in making effective decisions in a timely manner
- Innovative mindset that seeks creative solutions on projects
- Excellent communication and project management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Highly organized and technologically savvy
- Ability to attend community events which includes some evenings and weekends
- Self-starter able to work independently leading and managing multiple projects
- Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
- Work Environment: Office & Field: Typically, interior/office environment
- Physical Demands: Medium work: Involves some lifting 10-20 lbs., walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
