Job Description
At Sixfold, everybody’s responsible for quality. But somebody’s got to be accountable for it, make it their primary focus, and lead us all to do it well. As our first QA practitioner, that’s you!
In this role, you’ll create and lead our QA practice. You’ll work hands-on with multiple pods to deliver all aspects of our B2B SaaS offering, including how we use generative AI to help insurance underwriters. But instead of being a bottleneck for our entire organization, you’ll put processes and tools in place to allow pods to take ownership of their quality without reducing their productivity.
As an early employee at Sixfold, you will have the opportunity to influence the foundation and growth of our business. And you can grow with us - when it’s time to build the QA team, you’ll get to flex your muscles as a manager if you so choose.
What you’ll do:
- Find issues in our software before it goes to production
- Track issues through our development lifecycle and advocate for their resolution, prioritizing customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance
- Automate how we test our software’s user interfaces, APIs, security, performance, and accessibility
- Lead us to conduct root cause analysis of complex issues and production incidents
- Define clear and measurable quality standards
- Design, document, and continuously improve our quality processes and methodologies
- Monitor and report on our quality performance
Who you are:
- Proven track record of execution: You have extensive experience ensuring the smooth release of quality software to customers through both engineering and manual testing.
- Detail-oriented: You have outstanding organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfort with ambiguity and change: You can own problems and proactively devise solutions for them, not just wait for somebody to feed you tasks to execute.
- Collaborative mindset: You enjoy working with internal and external teams to build better solutions, dividing and conquering problems and finding win-win scenarios.
- Care deeply about end-user experience: You take pride in shipping products that solve customer needs. You partner closely with your teammates to craft beautiful onboarding and product experiences.
- Thoughtful problem-solving: You approach problems holistically, starting with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You think critically about the implications of what you're building and how it will impact real people's lives. You can navigate ambiguity flawlessly, decomposing complex problems into clean solutions while also balancing the business impact of what you’re building.
- Not ideological about technology: To you, technologies and programming languages are about tradeoffs. You may be opinionated, but you're not ideological and can learn new technologies as you go.
- Empathetic communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real-time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.
Qualifications:
- You have 8+ years of hands-on experience practicing quality analysis and engineering for software-as-a-service (SaaS) products.
- You have a background in software engineering using high-level languages like Ruby, Python, and JavaScript to build and integrate test automation frameworks and tooling (in-house, open source, or commercial).
- You have written and executed test plans for complex software products and have experience configuring and using contemporary testing tools.
- You have been directly involved in the management or execution of software bug tracking and product release processes.
- You understand the complete software development lifecycle. You can name and explain each of the stages, how your work contributes to them, and how everything comes together to deliver amazing software to our customers.
- You have strong writing and verbal communication skills. You can explain yourself clearly and precisely, write correct and readable prose, and simplify complex concepts with diagrams.
- Bonus points if you have experience implementing quality practices compliant with SOC2, HIPAA, and similar frameworks!
