The Staff Accountant I supports Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative (SMBSC) and Spreckels Sugar Company Inc (SSCI) by performing general ledger-related duties. The Staff Accountant I helps SMBSC and SSCI reach its mission by (1) executing responsibilities related to the general ledger which includes: raw materials, inventory, month end close, and monthly financial reporting; (2) assisting with the annual audit; and (3) working on special projects to benefit the Company.
Essential Functions:
General Ledger Activities
- Calculates and processes month-end journal entries, which include: storestock inventory, raw materials, quantities, accruals, and allocations. Processing system reports, analyzing and reconciling financial inputs, expenses, and the balance sheet.
- Process purchase order receipts for labor/rentals etc.
- Raw materials inventory management
- Compliance reporting as needed
- Assist with beet payment processing
- Other duties as assigned
Audit Responsibilities
- Updates audit work papers
- Provides requested testing selections to audit team
- Assists with the reconciliation process for the annual report financial statements
Other duties
- Assists as a backup when needed

- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to operate computerized accounting and spreadsheet programs
- Ability to create formulas, pivot tables, and graphs using Microsoft Excel

- Ability to work overtime as required
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Three to five years general ledger, financial statement preparation preferred
- Great Plains experience a plus
