Staff Accountant - remote/hybrid

We are seeking a dedicated Staff Accountant to contribute to our exciting and fast-paced environment. This role provides a unique opportunity to shape and innovate accounting processes within our team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Following training at WhistlePig Whiskey, the Staff Accountant will also support these functions for affiliated entities.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Controller and Director of Finance and Administration, the Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in daily accounting functions, data entry, and reconciliations. The primary objective is to support the team in achieving timely and accurate monthly financial statements. This role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper looking for career advancement or a recent college graduate eager to gain hands-on experience in the accounting field.
Responsibilities:
- Perform common accounting functions such as cash posting, invoice processing, balance sheet reconciliation, and fixed asset support.
- Trailblaze and refine processes related to accounting responsibilities within the WhistlePig Whiskey team.
- Extend support for these functions to affiliated entities, including Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and Director of Finance and Administration to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum of an Associate degree in accounting or a related field, and 3-5 years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Demonstrated experience in accounting functions, including data entry and reconciliations.
- Natural curiosity and a desire for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualities:
- Previous experience in the spirits or beverage industry a huge plus but not a requirement.
Location & Travel:
- Must live in Vermont and be able to travel to all production sites: Middlebury and Shoreham VT and Mineville, NY; relocation is not available for this position.
- Must be able to travel as needed for training, onboarding, and offsite meetings.
