Serco-NA is seeking a motivated individual to provide technical Research and Development support for SSN(X).  Serco-NA has an immediate opening for an engineer with submarine systems and R&D experience to support our active contract with the U.S. Navy in the Washington, DC area.

 

Team Submarine's Submarine Program Offices are responsible for:

  • The acquisition of the OHIO Class replacement and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) of the COLUMBIA Class. The program is a major defense acquisition program and is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
  • The acquisition of New Construction Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarines (SSN(X)). The program is a major defense acquisition program with a total life cycle cost of approximately $336B. Additionally, successful improvement of the Class' capabilities is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).

 

NAVSEA PMS 4XX Program office is responsible to PEO Submarines for the design and Development of SSN(X), the Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarine.  They work directly with the shipbuilder to achieve a design that meets all of the required capabilities for this new platform.  The SSN(X) program is critical to the future of our National Defense.  Len Bunch (linkedin.com/in/leonardbunch) leads this high-performing contractor team supporting NAVSEA as a 34 year Navy veteran.   The team has been recognized by the Navy and the industry for their outstanding contributions to the contract and program.

 

General Duties:

  • Provides day-to-day on-site support for future attack submarines design, development and R&D planning under the Ship Design Manager (SDM) for Future Submarines in NAVSEA 05U and the R&D manager in the SSN(X) project office (PMS 4XX), respectively.
  • Generates strategic and detailed programmatic documentation, schedules, and plans, and plays a key role in coordinating action between the Ship Design Manager, financial staffs and the technical and R&D teams. Generates strategies, plans, schedules, and briefing materials to support the SSN(X) technical and R&D teams' near- and long-term planning efforts. Compiles and coalesces a vast array of inputs from various stakeholders into cohesive draft reports, briefs, and other products, often with very short turnaround times. Manages version control as products are reviewed by the customer and throughout the enterprise and generates final copies for delivery when complete. 
  • Compiles tasking proposals received by PMS 4XX from across the submarine enterprise and generates high-level summary documentation used by the customer to prioritize them and determine funding levels for the next fiscal year. Tracks execution of tasking throughout the current year and documents receipt of deliverables.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of various studies, meetings, and working groups held with subject matter experts in narrow areas of expertise with the goal of defining specific problems and delineating areas of responsibility. Generates briefing materials, agendas, and rosters for all team meetings. Manages attendance and ensures all visitors are cleared by security. During meetings, takes notes and generates written summaries and meeting minutes, logging all actions in a master tracker.
Qualifications

Education and required/Preferred Experience:

 

  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance before start of employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in any technical discipline.
    • Extensive NAVSEA or submarine experience may replace the degree requirement
  • 8 years of experience supporting large organizations
  • 3 years of experience supporting Navy acquisition programs
  • Knowledge and experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • 10% travel required.
