Job description

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Staff Program Manager to join our Uber Tech organization to help execute and develop operational processes, solve complex challenges, and be a force multiplier across the leadership team. Program Managers move fluidly from thinking about big picture solutions to nailing the small details so the team can seamlessly deliver on strategic cross-functional projects, often with tight deadlines. You are a bridge and a connector for the team contributing to high impact projects that keep us moving forward!
You are organized, detail oriented, proactive, and driven to set the standard and deliver excellent results. The right person will thrive in an "all hands on deck" global environment, loves optimizing for efficiency, and isn't afraid to be the squeaky wheel when it comes to optimization and efficiency across the team. No task is beneath you. You work collaboratively to help our teams to work better, faster, and more inquisitive!
You are a leader who effectively develops relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and brings different perspectives to the table. You build trust across the org. You are not afraid to drive teams to deliver results, and you act with emotional intelligence and integrity.
You will be defining and driving programs in our Mobility & Product Platforms Engineering and Science organization. This global organization delivers some of the most critical charters that powers the Uber app.
What the Candidate Will Do:
Build positive relationships with cross-functional team members and work collaboratively with key partners to deliver on the following:
Operational Strategy and Execution
- Lead the operational strategy and execution for the organization, enabling teams to meet strategic goals and objectives.
- Identify gaps and risks, and build programs, processes, and policies to drive improvements.
- Implement continuous improvements to the org and the program management process.
- Manage issue escalations and proactively remove obstacles to drive momentum and progress.
- Plan, run, and follow through on key meetings/programs such as monthly business and program reviews, team all-hands, and staff meetings.
Financial and Headcount Management
- Ensure organizational spending aligns with budget and priorities.
- Lead headcount planning and analytics, reporting and forecasting.
- Liaison with the recruitment team to help achieve hiring goals.
Communication
- Lead the communications strategy for the org.
- Ensure information flows clearly and efficiently to enable teams to achieve high-quality results.
People and Culture
- Partner with leadership, HR, and Recruiting to support people, cultivate growth, promote cohesion, and build a strong culture across the organization.
- Enable global sites to work effectively together.
Executive Optimization
- Act as an advisor, proxy, and gatekeeper to help optimize and scale the Engineering and Science leaders.
- Own planning and management of leadership offsite and global site visits.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7+ years experience as a Program Manager in a tech and/or start up environment working directly with software engineers.
- Sophisticated in project management principles and experience working as part of a leadership team.
- Skilled at data analytics. Able to drive insights based on information from disparate sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding emotional intelligence.
- Ability to influence and empower people across a variety of job functions through your relationships.
- Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to balance many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items.
- Strong bias towards action. You drive end-to-end results and are always thinking ahead.
- Obsessive attention to detail and you are constantly looking for ways to tweak and optimize for better results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Worked at a high paced, fast-growing tech startup, large global tech company, or has a consulting background
- Analytics background. You have collected, structured and analyzed data to drive key insights.
- Proven track record to handle large sophisticated projects/programs, especially related to people, community, and diversity.
- A specialist with project management tools and software (e.g., Coda, Google Suite, JIRA, dashboard development etc)
- You can understand technical concepts and engineers enjoy working closely with you.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $207,000 per year - $230,000 per year.
