Sr. Laboratory Operations Specialist

Recludix Pharma is a venture capital-funded biotechnology company located in San Diego, California and Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are engaged in small molecule drug discovery for the treatment of targeted patient populations in oncology and autoimmune disease. Job Summary:

We are seeking a Laboratory Operations Specialist to lead Lean Laboratory Operations, facility safety, and potential facility relocation initiatives at the Recludix San Diego site. This position is accountable for inventory management, 5S lab organization, laboratory safety leadership, and instrument maintenance /IT security. Additional responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, compound management and study workflow coordination as part of a team effort. A successful candidate will be skilled in 5S Lean management of Laboratory Operations and have proven leadership as a facility Safety Officer. We are seeking candidates who are self-motivated and able to work across the organization and with external consultants and CROs to drive success. Successful candidates will have a proven record of precise task management and the ability to manage multiple workflows in parallel. Candidates with previous Lean Six Sigma training and facility relocation planning are highly preferred.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Accountable for tracking, restocking, and reordering key laboratory reagents and labware using Lean principles, with support from responsible laboratory scientists and Recludix Operations Manager.
  • Includes review and optimization of current system
• Accountable for devising and enforcing continuous 5S laboratory practices and annual laboratory cleanup activities, with support from responsible laboratory scientists.
• Accountable for planning and executing facility moves as related to Laboratory Operations, including equipment moves, and required infrastructure to support existing and projected equipment needs.
• Laboratory Safety Officer: accountable for leading Safety Committee:
  • Proactively monitoring proper disposal of hazardous waste streams
  • Ensuring lab compliance for all key safety regulations
  • Leading periodic internal audits with CRO consultant to ensure compliance with evolving safety standards. This role will be supported by responsible parties from G&A and scientific departments.
• Additional Lab Safety Accountabilities:
  • Registration of chemicals into Chemical Inventory and organizing chemical storage.
  • Defining all waste streams and ensuring execution and compliance
  • All interactions with San Diego City/County Deputy Fire Marshals
  • Yearly employee safety training
  • Renewal of contracts with hazardous waste-disposal contractors
  • Providing PPE (safety glasses, lab coats) to all scientists
  • Enforcing laboratory safety policies
  • Updating and enforcing the laboratory “Accountability and Responsibility” matrix that outlines tasks assigned to laboratory personnel
• Responsible for preparation assistance, registration, archiving, and team communication for solution batches of weekly novel drug discovery compounds (shared responsibility)
  • Responsible for external study implementation, including the plating and delivery of compounds to external partners, per study design (shared responsibility).
• Accountable for routine lab equipment maintenance, including maintaining active service contracts. Serve as point personnel for equipment maintenance issues with vendor.
• Accountable for ensuring that IT security updates to laboratory computers do not create down-time for key instrumentation.

Qualifications:

• B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Laboratory operations management skills (biology and biochemistry)
• Proven laboratory safety leadership skills
• Experience with Excel and team communication software.
• Organizational and planning skills with extreme attention to detail and troubleshooting.
• Lean training is highly preferred, with Lean 5S

Further Information:

Salary range: $95,000 – $115,000
