The Senior Director, Data Infrastructure is a critical role responsible for the architecture, implementation, and scaling of the organization’s Data Infrastructure. This role oversees the planning, development, and maintenance of data storage solutions, data processing, and data pipelines to support analytics and data science initiatives.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Lead the Data Infrastructure team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and reliable data storage and processing solutions.
2. Collaborate with the VP of Technology and other stakeholders to develop and implement a long-term data strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
3. Manage vendor relationships to ensure best-of-breed infrastructure solutions, considering not just conventional but also new and disruptive technologies.
4. Oversee data security protocols, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations like GDPR, and other industry standards.
5. Provide expert guidance on the selection of database technologies, data warehousing solutions, and big data technologies.
6. Optimize existing data pipelines and establish new data flows to accommodate increasing data volume and complexity.
7. Partner with other divisions to fix any data quality items that come up.
8. Conduct regular audits of data systems to ensure data integrity, availability, and resilience.
9. Foster innovation by identifying and incorporating state-of-the-art data technologies and methodologies into the existing infrastructure.
10. Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and other data consumers to understand their requirements and translate them into Data Infrastructure solutions.
11. Facilitate cross-functional teams in troubleshooting and resolving Data Infrastructure-related issues, providing technical expertise as needed.
12. Lead efforts in performance tuning, query optimization, and data partitioning.

Educational and Skills Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering or related roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position
• Extensive experience in cloud-based data storage solutions, big data technologies, and data pipeline tools
• Certifications in cloud services or data engineering are advantageous
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking capabilities
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Proficiency in relevant programming languages such as SQL, Python, or Java
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and projects at hand
• Able to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

Travel Requirements:

• Travel is moderately required for this position (0-5 trips per year).
• Travel may include both domestic and international.

Type/Nature of Contacts:

• Internal: Daily contact with Virtuoso Staff.
• External: Daily contact with all levels of members and partners.
