Choice Hotels, one of the world's largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as our Senior Database Administrator in the Database Administration team. The Senior Database Administrator provides administration for relational database infrastructure and management systems and supports Choice personnel who are users of these databases, including end users, software developers, operations staff and technical support staff. The Sr DBA typically serves as a lead resource for critical and non-critical database systems and is considered the subject matter expert on one or more critical database systems. The Sr DBA will also provide mentoring to team mates and act as a consultant on mission critical projects and initiatives.

Your Work Location
As our Sr Database Administrator, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art technology hub in Scottsdale, AZ. In October 2021, Choice opened a newly constructed world class technology center.
Right now, our associates in Scottsdale, AZ are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtual from your home office the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.

Your Responsibilities
- Designs, documents and sets up database infrastructure, including hardware and operating systems.
- Provides technical support for the database environment and supports internal teams in the use of databases
- Under limited direction of from management and in coordination with different teams, plans, designs, installs and configures database systems and software.
- Develops applications for data migration and maintenance.
- Proactively monitors database system operations and activity.
- Performs system maintenance.
- Troubleshoots and resolves system performance issues in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Maintains database documentation and security.
- Performs back-ups and restores and assists with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Supports miscellaneous applications with client/server middleware.
- Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards, tools and operational considerations.
- Makes suggestions for process, implementation, and performance improvements.
Your Experience, Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant industry certification is preferred.
- Experience with AWS and two or more database platforms a must.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in database administration, information systems, or equivalent technical environment. Previous experience supporting highly transactional, mission critical systems is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of data structures and database management systems.
- Strong knowledge of a broad spectrum of infrastructure technologies and secure computing environments: network, hardware and operating systems, servers and storage.
- Strong understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and relational application design and development.
