The Arizona Game and Fish Department manages fish and wildlife in Arizona and under the authority of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, creates and implements scientific methods and regulations to effectively manage fish and wildlife habitat via conservation, enforcement, hunting, fishing, watercraft and off-highway vehicle recreation, and shooting sports. Job Summary:

The Database Administrator will ensure availability, integrity, confidentiality and reliability of database systems across the Department. They will also monitor and manage user accounts, and maintain database instances across multiple operating environments. Ensure security guidelines/mechanisms are reviewed and implemented according to state policies; troubleshoots application key selection, creation of appropriate indexes, and query needs. Develops database administration and maintenance procedures. Keep an inventory of all databases and ensure that their platforms are up to date.

Job Duties:

-Monitor and manage customer user account data for completeness and integrity.
-Ensure customer data is consistent across systems and customer transactions and payments are visible and accurate in the database.
-Install, monitor, and direct proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality and reliability of database systems.
-Evaluate databases for accuracy, speed and efficiency.
-Routinely review indexing and other database optimization tools to maximize efficiency.
-Maintain database instances across multiple operating environments. Updating instances as requirements change and new services are added.
-Document data requirements. May assist in the documentation of hardware requirements or specialized tools.
-Optimize admin tools used by other business units.
-Respond to internal customer inquiries related to data and database functionality.
-Generate ad hoc reports as needed.
-Troubleshoot and maintenance of incidents
-May train other employees.
-Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate will have knowledge of physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc; industry standards for data capture, transmission, consumption and reporting; and T-SQL Triggers SSIS. The candidate will be skilled in model and design relational databases such as tables, views and indexes; deadlocks; relational database management systems; written, virtual and oral communication; critical thinking; organization; and paying attention to details. The candidate will have the ability to balance, prioritize and organize multiple tasks across organizations; work collaboratively in teams; synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly; develop and write technical documentation; apply creative solutions to business problems; work in a fast paced environment; effectively evaluate and anticipate risk or negative impacts to data and data integrity.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Associates degree plus 1-3 years of experience in database administration (or equivalent experience) is required.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
