Position Summary:
Perform student loan accounting and reconciliation functions for student loan programs comprising UC Irvine's in-school student loan portfolio. Audit general ledger accounts, reviewing and reconciling financial activity and identifying discrepancies. Prepare financial journals to correct financial system data and post on-line adjustments to a variety of systems. Assure the timely and accurate transfer of borrower demographic information and loan data including new loans, loan advances, loan reductions, and loan adjustments the University's loan servicer. Perform monthly reconciliation of inschool loan transfers to billing servicer. Oversee customer service and check disbursement activities in the in-school loan unit of Financial Services. Coordinate the identification and notification of campus based loan borrowers that need to fulfill Exit Interview requirements. Administer the Employee Emergency Loan program, reviewing and processing loan applications. Analyze National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) requirements and recommend data management, reporting, and reconciliation procedures. Reconcile Federal Perkins loan and borrower enrollment data submitted to NSLDS and analyze and correct data discrepancies. Perform special projects for unit manager and administer the Employee Emergency Loan Program.

Required:
- General knowledge of federal regulations student loan provisions relating to federal campus-based student loan programs.
- Accounting principles to monitor and reconcile student loan activity.
- Analytical skill to interpret and apply policies and procedures relating to student loan activities.
- Ability to perform fast and accurate mathematical calculations.
- Skill to independently develop innovative solutions and solve problems in the context of frequent policy and program changes.
- Skill to interact effectively and diplomatically with campus personnel, a diverse student population and others in a public contact setting and the ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference and hostility.
- Skill in speaking with persons of various social, cultural, and economic backgrounds to provide information and explain procedures and policies.
- Analytical and calculation skills to independently compile data, and prepare and evaluate reports.
- General knowledge of automated accounting, billing, and collections systems.
- Skill in the use of desktop computers and spreadsheet, word processing and database programs.
- Ability to work independently and set priorities, following through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Ability to complete assignments in an environment of frequent interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload.
- General knowledge of Campus Personnel and Payroll Policy and Affirmative Action Guidelines General knowledge of UC Irvine accounting practices and financial system.
- Employee must be available during peak activity, generally at the beginning of each academic quarter for Loan Promissory Note processing, and Financial Aid Check disbursements, as well as at the end of each academic quarter for Campus Based Student Loan Exit Interview coordination.
