Duties
The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist in providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to patients through the policies and procedures of PerformSpecialty Pharmacy, the state's professional standards, and other regulatory entities. The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assists in the dispensing process by performing data entry, prescription preparation, claims processing, labeling, packaging, packing, and delivery of medications and related services to patients.
Job Responsibilities for the Pharmacy Technician include:
Entering and processing new and refill prescription orders, and supply and equipment requests while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Filling patient orders accurately by selecting and retrieving the appropriate medications, verifying quantities, and preparing prescription labels for medications and related supplies.
Forwarding orders to the Pharmacist for completion, verification, and/or clarification.
Accurately enters data into the pharmacy computer system so that appropriate paperwork is generated
Selecting appropriate supplies and ancillaries based on medication requirements, patient needs and preferences.
Contact patients, caregivers, and prescribers as needed to secure refill authorization, initiate order clarification, and obtain information necessary to complete the patient profile and the dispensing process
Adjudicating pharmacy claims, reviewing and resolving claim rejections; and contacting insurance plans for assistance as needed.
Assists with product purchasing, inventory, and equipment management as needed.
Ensures client-specific materials are paired with order and prepared for shipment.
The technician assists in the shipping process by selecting appropriate packing materials and packing methods and generating shipping labels.
Before the end of their shift or as scheduled, clean dispensing area equipment and replenish workstation supplies.
Providing excellent customer service to patients, internal and external customers
Performs additional duties as assigned as related to the practice of pharmacy which do not require a pharmacist's professional judgement.
Skills
Three to five years of pharmacy experience
Understands drug terminology and therapies/services provided in Specialty Pharmacy
Understands and can perform intermediate pharmaceutical calculations to obtain correct doses of medications
Understand the broader organizational structure and the scope of services the company has to offer
Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information
Observes legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary company information
Understands and complies with HIPAA
Participates in the process of assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment errors and/or failures
Accurately completes quality assurance forms and forwards them to the supervising pharmacist
In all activities, complies with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements
Participates in on-call responsibilities of the pharmacy department if required
