Employee in this position is responsible for assigning, organizing, directing, supervising, and coordinating all phases of the Solid Waste, hazardous waste, wastewater and recycling daily activities of the Solid Waste Technicians 1, 2, 3 and 4.

- Assist Solid Waste Operations Manager on jobs, as assigned, to organize, direct, participate and coordinate all phases of the Solid Waste, hazardous waste, wastewater and recycling activities.
- Direct, supervise and participate in all operational maintenance and repair activities related to all facilities and equipment for Solid Waste, hazardous waste, wastewater and recycling.
- Responsible for assigning tasks to each respective crew member, ensuring that all tools, materials and equipment are delivered to job site. Keep track of equipment repairs and service.

- Responsible for developing and ensuring that proper safety measures are implemented and observed. Ensure paperwork is completed in the proper manner and filed daily.
- Perform other tasks as directed that are related to procurement, reporting, permitting and compliance.
- Ability to frequently move heavy loads up to 500 lbs. using hand equipment and lift up to 50 lbs. to shoulder height.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates and the general public.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with other employees and the general public and to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Familiar with equipment, tools, and techniques commonly used at wastewater and Solid Waste facilities from small tools to heavy equipment and knowledge of safety principles of same.
- Working knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures, soil sampling, and environmental testing required for operation of all facilities.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Two or more years of post-high school technical training, job-related experience or trade school required.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License within three (3) months of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain a CDL within one-year.
- Employee shall have Wastewater Plant Operator in Training (OIT) or Level 1 at minimum within one year and Level II or higher within 4 years.
- Certificates of training in any applied skill desirable including heavy equipment, welding, construction trades, or related skills.
- Ability to receive certification within one year of employment, or as directed, for skills including first aid, industrial safety, confined spaces, and hazardous waste handling and to maintain said certification.
- Employee must be willing to attend seminars and classes as required.
