Who are we looking for?   

The Solid Waste Management Group is looking for a Solid Waste Engineer/Project Manager in our Seattle office. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise, local relationships and knowledge on challenging projects with the support to grow your career.  As a part of the Solid Waste Management team, you will also have the opportunity to support projects across North America and globally, including collaboration with other business groups including Integrated Water Management and Contamination Assessment and Remediation (CAR) groups. You will be part of a team of technical experts that support GHD's Western Region.

The position will consist of managing projects and staff while supporting business development and client relationship management.  We are seeking talented, self-motivated, and active networkers who value building credible long-term relationships with their colleagues, clients, and the community.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as technical lead to develop the approach, implement projects, and present to clients and project partners for projects requiring permitting, operations support, detailed design, construction management and inspection, environmental monitoring and studies, and support strategic regional business development activities.
  • Serve as project manager, delivering quality projects on budget and schedule.
  • Lead the design of landfills, transfer stations, composting facilities and anaerobic digestion facilities. 
  • Coordinate technical resources and personnel including drafters, 3D designers, GIS and database technicians, chemists, geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and planners to complete Solid Waste facility designs and plans.
  • Prepare technical analysis, modeling, reports, presentations.
  • Complete peer review of technical reports and designs completed by others.
  • Effectively communicate with existing and prospective clients
  • Mentoring junior staff 
  • Fieldwork planning and coordination of subcontractors during drilling, excavating, trenching, system construction, etc. and fieldwork, as required for project execution.
  • Lead and/or contribute to proposal preparation.

The ideal candidate would have the following experience/skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technical writing skills; with grant and proposal writing experience a plus.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technical staff.
  • Long-term client management experience
  • Experience preparing complex engineering analysis and planning documents.
  • Experience in developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Must be able to work on multiple assignments simultaneously; and have strong organizational, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
  • Skills in or knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, GIS, surfer, PCSWMM, HELP, Scholl Canyon, Land GEM.
  • Experience with the Solid Waste management regulatory regime in Washington, Oregon and California will be an asset. 
  • Knowledge of material recycling, composting and organics management technologies and regulations will be an asset. 
  • Experience with evaluation and restoration of natural systems, including wetlands, riverine systems, and tidal estuaries, and evaluating and designing fish passage and screening projects, a plus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; (Environmental, Civil, or similar), Advanced Degree in related field is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of civil engineering experience with a focus on Solid Waste/ public infrastructure including modeling, engineering, and planning projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in WA, with registration in other states a plus

Benefits:

  • 401K - Employees are eligible to participate on the first day of the month following 3 months of service
  • Paid time off - Our PTO benefit is designed to provide eligible employees with a period of rest and relaxation, sick, and personal time throughout the year. PTO starts at 16 days per year and increases with years of service
  • Holiday Pay - Holiday pay is provided for eligible employees. GHD observes 9 holidays per year. Holiday pay will be based on the regular set schedule for the employee
  • Wellness Benefit- Regular full-term employees are eligible to participate in the wellness reimbursement program. GHD will reimburse 50% of the cost of the following to maximum of $250.00 reimbursement annually for such items as: Health club membership fees, Home exercise equipment purchases, Bicycles, Race, run & marathon entrance fees, Smoking cessation programs, Weight loss programs (i.e.-Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), Fitbits and Fitness Tracking devices

Salary Range: $130,000- $195,000 based on experience
