Position Details
The salary range listed reflects the recently approved COLA and are 2024 rates.

The City of Auburn Finance Department is looking for a Solid Waste Specialist. This position performs technical and administrative work facilitating the City's waste reduction and recycling programs and providing customer service to the City utilities. This includes assisting with program development, presentations, and customer billing issues.
OUR CITY
The City of Auburn is home to over 80,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce. The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members.
OUR FINANCE DEPARTMENT
The Finance Department consists of 25 employees total, with responsibilities ranging from operational accounting, to budgeting, to utility billing. This position reports to the Utility Billing Services Supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION
The City's office hours are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an hour for lunch.
Primary Duties
In this role, you will:
  • Develop promotional materials including brochures, flyers, posters, news releases, and articles for publication.
  • Communicate effectively and build positive relations with businesses, schools, senior citizens, and organizations to share information on waste reduction and recycling programs.
  • Respond to and resolve customer concerns, including Solid Waste and utility billing issues.
  • Assist in developing policies which guide the procurement of recyclable goods and products with recycled content, and coordinate the implementation of adopted policies.

Minimum Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR...
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent AND
  • Three (3) years of work experience related to environmental and/or public education; OR
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training that indicate the ability to successfully complete the essential functions of the job.
