The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

 

HJF is seeking a Social MediaSpecialist to support the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP), in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine within Uniformed Services University (USU) at its Rockledge Drive location in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is responsible for creating and posting digital content about dietary supplements, performance-enhancing substances (PES), and other related topics across Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) and CHAMP’s Social Media channels. Additional duties include engaging subscribers, monitoring trends and topics, collecting and reporting impact data, and making recommendations on improving commutations to target audiences. Works with Director of Strategic Communications to provide technical assistance to internal groups concerning health communication and marketing strategies.

 

Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years. 

 


  • Develops digital content (graphics, videos, ads, flyers, toolkits, and messaging) and schedules posts on CHAMP entities across popular platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Works with the Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) team to create, deliver, and market science-based health information as well as program updates. Implements strategies to optimize Social Media profiles. Configure Social Media marketing tools.
  • Monitors Social Media trends and topics as it relates to dietary supplements, Total Force Fitness, and PES. Also, responds to Social Media inquiries in a timely manner and engages vetted Social Media partners and influencers. Maintains relationships and participates in Social Media meetings with partners, collaborators, and stakeholders.
  • Maintains analytics dashboard and regularly reports on milestones/timetables and conducts continual progress monitoring of OPSS quantitative and qualitative Social Media metrics.
  • Develops and implements Social Media campaigns for dietary supplements and PES, and coordinates plans of actions involving internal and external team members. Works with subject matter experts to organize needed support for each campaign’s goals. Informs Social Media marketing strategies and communications plans.
  • Provide communications graphics and messaging for other CHAMP media (e.g. newsletters, websites, flyers, etc.), as needed.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities to support CHAMP, as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have outstanding writing and creative design skills.
  • Keen ability to distill complex ideas and scientific information into plain language and compelling visuals.
  • Facility using Social Media management tools (e.g. Hootsuite) and design tools (e.g. Canva and Adobe Suite).
  • Should possess strong organizational and analytical skills, and a basic understanding of Social Media insights.
  • Great interpersonal skills are strongly desired.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
  • Work arrangement is a telework schedule.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or similar required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required
