Description
The Small Group Facilitator provides guidance to medical students during Small Group learning activities. This is a 0.5 FTE position, with varying hours that will be scheduled based on curricular needs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitates PEARLS for first- and second-year medical students.
- Completes all PEARLS formative and summative assessment requirements.
- Attends weekly PEARLS faculty development sessions.
- Facilitates Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Learning sessions.
- Attends faculty development for Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Learning sessions.
- Completes formative and summative grading for Clinical Learning sessions.
- Participates in the planning and development of Physical Diagnosis and Clinical Learning sessions, as needed.
- Precepts formative clinical skills sessions.
- Participates in simulation debriefs as needed.
- Assists with grading final essay exams as needed.
- Serves as a Family Head.
- Facilitates Structure stations as needed to ensure the successful execution of the Structure curriculum.
- Participates in structure sessions in GALEN initiative with third-year students, as appropriate.
- Participates in grading structure examinations.
- Participates in ACE rounds, as appropriate and needed.
- Assists with various administrative activities such as reviewing faculty guides for Small Group facilitation, editing weekly essay questions as requested, and reviewing prework as requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- MD or DO with at least three years of clinical experience required.
- Demonstrated interest in innovative pedagogical approaches.
- Ability to contribute to a multi-disciplinary educational environment and to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
- Willingness to engage in a student-centered curriculum with emphasis on learning rather than teaching.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, and students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Flexibility and the ability to adjust work hours to meet curricular needs that change weekly.
Preferred Quals Summary
- Prior experience in medical education, particularly facilitating Small Group sessions preferred.
- Experience with learning management systems and other educational software.

Salary/Salary Range
$65,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
