Description
The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking to hire part-time seasonal staff for the position of Site Director within the Parks and Recreation Department for Youth Development (Before/After School Care), Preschool, and Teens.
Under close supervision, the Site Director plans, organizes, and directs recreation enrichment activities/programs such as day camps, youth and adult sports, leisure and enrichment classes, and special events specific to the assigned program area of the position. This position is used throughout the Parks and Recreation Department and responsibilities expected to be performed may vary depending upon the assignment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of a specific statement on duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed. Employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level as required.
  • Provides and oversees the implementation of a wide variety of age appropriate activities/curriculum in the assigned program area;
  • Provides a safe and clean environment with adequate supervision by implementing guidelines from CSD and Department policies and procedures manuals;
  • Arrives on time and in proper attire/appearance as required by CSD guidelines;
  • Accountable for all program participants during program hours;
  • Monitors behavior of participants;
  • Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, CSD personnel, EGUSD personnel and the public;
  • Maintains daily attendance and registration records, in accordance with registration policies;
  • Completes reports, forms, and activity calendars as necessary, and ensures that all reports are completed and submitted accurately and on time;
  • Communicates with parents, participants and the public; discusses program concerns and participation issues and provides solutions when appropriate; informs parents of upcoming program activities and CSD events;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;
  • Reports any potentially unsafe conditions to the supervisor;
  • Responsible for, and may assist with, set up and clean up of facility and equipment;
  • Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies;
  • Actively contributes to building participant enrollment, which may include attending EGUSD school functions, program outreach events and assists supervisory staff in program outreach and marketing;
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings as required; ensures that site staff are fully aware of any and all pertinent information;
  • Attends recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth;
  • Purchases and maintains program/facility supplies and equipment in accordance with policy;
  • Provides assistance to supervisors and lower-level workers as required;
  • May make recommendations and provides feedback to supervisory staff regarding selection, training, discipline, evaluation and salary of lower level workers.

Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Education and Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Completion of fifteen (15) semester units from an accredited college or university in a field closely related to the area to which the position is assigned; or actively enrolled in college or other post-high school education.

Experience:
  • Six (6) months of previous experience, or equivalent community/volunteer service in the field to which the position is assigned; or one (1) previous season employed with the CSD.

Special Requirements:
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; Certification must be maintained through employment;
  • Must possess, and maintain throughout employment a valid California Class "C" driver's license, with a clean driving record;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Knowledge of:
  • Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in the planning and implementation process for a variety of children's recreational and education activities relevant to the assigned program area;
  • Basic principles of child development and activities that support growth;
  • Basic principles of customer service;
  • Current methods and techniques used in preparing reports, letters, activity calendar/schedule, and memos using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
  • Basic operation of appliances, equipment and office machines including a vacuum cleaner, heating and air conditioning unit, intrusion alarm, calculator, computer, keyboard, printers and other peripherals, copier, and fax machine;
  • Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages and fractions.

Ability to:
  • Effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with program participants, EGUSD personnel, CSD personnel and the public;
  • Analyze and use independent judgment in problem solving fairly routine situations such as responding to customer or employee problems/complaints, supervising children's activities and trips, caring for children with injuries and resolving conflicts between participants to ensure safety;
  • Assess potentially unsafe environments for staff and participants;
  • Comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident, incident, and behavior reports; emergency, registration, and Hold Harmless forms using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
  • Lead the work of others including the assigning, reviewing, planning and coordination of work; providing clear instruction and guidance on a day to day basis.
  • Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting at desk or in meetings for long periods of time; occasionally reaching and twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk; occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling and twisting while performing classroom work; frequent pushing, pulling or lifting up to forty (40) pounds for setting up programs and/or special events;
  • Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision;
  • Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing and typing; frequent grasping, holding and reaching; frequent operation of office equipment and hand tools such as, but not limited to, cleaning and first aid supplies, scissors, plunger and mop;
  • Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone;
  • Emotional/Psychological: frequent decision making and concentration, frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasional work alone;
  • Driving: ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving.

Typical Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office environment and/or outside in various types of weather. Incumbents may be exposed to noise, moisture, dust, vibrations, heat and cold. Work may take place and require travel in a vehicle to and from off-site indoor and outdoor locations throughout the District.
Supplemental Information
Application/Supplemental Review-Applications will be reviewed for possession of minimum qualifications and evaluated according to the essential functions of the job, and other needs of the position. Group Assessment Center- The most qualified candidates from the review will be invited to a group assessment center. The group assessment may include interview questions, activities, and/or presentations. The in-person assessment will be scheduled in the afternoon on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Conditional Offer Procedures - Candidates selected from the assessment will receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the successful completion of the following:
  • Background Check: A State of California, Department of Justice criminal background check.
  • Medical Clearance: A clear tuberculosis screening and a clear drug screening will be required.
  • Work Eligibility: The District participates in E-Verify to confirm authorization to work in the US.
Please Note: Part-time employment with the District is on an "at-will" basis meaning the District or the employee may terminate employment at any time with or without cause.
