The Shop Foreman is responsible for assisting the Fleet Manager in managing all maintenance activities on motor-powered heavy equipment, vehicles and support equipment in the company. This responsibility includes but is not limited to monitoring maintenance activities, cost efficient budgeting, and full compliance with all DOT, MSHA, OSHA rules and regulations.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Assists in managing all minor and major repairs on company fleet in the shop or field to include: small tools, pumps, generators, pick-ups, all trucks and heavy equipment
- Prioritize repairs based upon the need of the equipment to the projects to include a cost analysis based on rental, maintenance costs and timeliness
- Assist in management of all preventative maintenance for entire fleet to ensure full compliance with requirements
- Manage and confirm fleet and department compliance with all governing agencies to include DOT, MSHA, OSHA, EPA, etc.
- Perform weekly safety meetings and ensure that all department employees are following safe work practices in the shop as well as in the field
- Manage all fleet repairs to confirm cost effectiveness, quality and safety processes are being followed
- Maintain entire fleet to properly reflect a positive Holcim image where pride in operation and cleanliness are apparent
- Communicate with Fleet Manager, Superintendents and Quarry Manager as to equipment needs and scheduling of equipment to projects
- Will acquire, manage repairs, PMs, fuel consumption, delivery and return of rental equipment needed for projects
- Order parts and supplies for Maintenance department. Deal with vendors on ordering and obtaining the most cost-effective pricing possible.
- Assist other company departments in purchasing supplies as needed
- Assist in monitoring, tracking, and maintaining oil analysis program on all fleet equipment
- Manage billing of fuel and all other shop inventory items on a monthly basis
- Communicate all major issues dealing with equipment and/or employees to Fleet Manager
- Communicate future equipment needs or replacements to Fleet Manager to include using cost analysis tools to confirm viability to buy new or used and what options are necessary and available
- Lead and mentor maintenance department personnel. Assist in performing employee evaluations, scheduling, and enforcement of company policies, hiring, promotions, demotions, reprimands, and dismissals with the prior approval of the Fleet Manager
- Assist in scheduling maintenance department personnel for appropriate training and coordinate training expenses through Fleet Manager
- Will assist in properly coding all vendor packing slips and invoices, in a timely manner, to confirm proper PO #'s and account codes are attached for A/P processing
- Confirm all equipment licensing/registration is current and installed properly along with proof of insurance
- Approve and submit employee time cards and oiler reports on a daily basis
- May work with A/P on any issues or concerns related to Maintenance department expenditures
- Coordinate with Quarry Manager and/or Dispatcher on daily availability of trucks and trailers
- Keep up on the industries latest technologies that can benefit the company's future as well as the Fleet Manager's own personal growth
RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER JOBS
This position will work with shop personnel along with quarry and field operations. They will communicate and work together to ensure the customer's needs are met in a safety and constructive manner.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma or GED required
Experience: 5+ years of equivalent experience in vehicle maintenance environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, and speak well (English);
- Basic math skills (American system of metrics; English);
- Valid Driver's License.
Additional Requirements:

- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
