Work Arrangement:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite three times per week, at minimum to Warren or Pontiac, as dictated by business need.
The Role:
The Service Design Engineer – Electric Propulsion will develop, validate, and implement common serviceability strategies, service part release/information and change management over the product across multiple propulsion families. In addition, will represent Aftersales Engineering during the propulsion development process, and partner with product engineering in the assigned Propulsion system development team(s).
What You’ll Do:
Create service deliverables for assigned vehicle commodity including special service tools and procedures, and lead projects as required
Communicate and advocate service technical requirements for serviceability in various engineering teams and forums
Seek opportunities for innovation by executing on new ideas and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to achieve warranty cost avoidance targets, including developing, documenting, and resolving service issues by using data and business case analysis
Works efficiently and effectively cross functionally with individuals and teams to tackle a problem or complete a project
Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work optimally with business partners to meet mutual goals
Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and seeks out opportunities for collaborative experiences to help accomplish organizational goals
Able and willing to learn quickly
Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GM’s core behaviors
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Knowledge of vehicle systems and components, specifically Electric Propulsion/drive units
High level oral and written communication skills
Proven project management skills considering project goals, advanced planning, identifying key partners, and aligning the team to meet project deadlines
Understand math/drawings/prints/specifications
Ability to adapt to change, deal with ambiguity, and a forward-thinking environment
Comfortable working with cross-functional teams
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology, or equivalent experience
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Design for Six Sigma experience
Electric systems or fuel cell experience
Automotive service experience at the wholesale or retail level
Solid understanding of automotive service practices and procedures
Hands on experience in automotive diagnosis and repair
Manufacturing or vehicle engineering experience
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products
