Working under the supervision of senior management in the Education Department, the Senior Writer will collaborate with CFR experts and a small editorial team, led by a Content Director, to develop new and update existing multimedia lessons and mini simulations that populate CFR Education’s vast content library. This position is based in CFR’s New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.
- Performing independent, in-depth research to write unbiased, balanced, and accurate text on a variety of international relations topics using a range of sources.
- Communicating with and interviewing CFR experts on a wide-range of topics.
- Writing original, visually-driven content in adherence to deadlines set and administered by the Content Director and approved by the Vice President, Education.
- Conforming to the voice and style of CFR Education and the non-partisan mandate of the Council in creating accessible multimedia resources of a foundational educational nature.
- Adapting content for other mediums, including newsletters and social media.
- 4+ years of related experience in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
- Degree in international relations or related field with high academic achievement.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with editors, experts, and senior management.
- Experience with digital publishing and editorial workflows.
- Demonstrated interest in international relations and global news.
- Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and proofreading skills.
- Flexible, positive, team-oriented attitude, and ability to independently balance multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Experience as a journalist strongly desired.
