The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is searching for a Senior VicePresident and Director of Financial Policy ("Finance SVP") who will provide strategic leadership related to Financial Policy and research to advance the mission of the Chicago Fed and the Federal Reserve System ("System"). The Finance SVP will serve as a key advisor on Financial Policy issues to senior leadership at the Chicago Fed and lead and participate in a variety of finance-related projects with economists and policy professionals in the Research, Policy, and Public Engagement Department (RPPE) and other areas at the Chicago Fed and the System. The Finance SVP will report to the Executive Vice President of RPPE and directly manage the leaders of the Financial Research and Financial Markets Groups within RPPE. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced leader from industry, academia, or a regulatory institution to produce and direct high-quality, impactful work directly connected to the responsibilities of the Federal Reserve.
Thought Leadership
  • Serve as a key advisor on Financial Policy to the Chicago Fed President, the head of RPPE, and the Chicago Fed's Executive Committee.
  • Provide thought leadership on the identification and analysis of important and timely Financial Policy issues regarding financial markets and institutions, especially at the intersection of regulatory developments, monetary policy, and financial markets.

People Leadership
  • Provide strategic leadership to teams of research economists and policy professionals, as they engage in a range of academic research, policy research, and current policy analysis.
  • In collaboration with peers, lead department initiatives, create and sustain a collegial culture, and further the Chicago Fed's commitment to excellence in research and policy analysis.
  • Participate in talent management activities for the Financial Research and Financial Markets teams, as well as other parts of RPPE and the Bank, including hiring, developing, evaluating, and rewarding staff.
  • Inclusively leverage diverse talents, enhance culture and engagement, and mentor and partner with staff with a wide variety of professional expertise and experiences.

Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain productive collaborative partnerships across multiple functional areas of the Chicago Fed and the Federal Reserve System.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with outside financial market institutions.
  • Help sustain a collegial and inclusive culture that seeks and promotes diverse views and perspectives.

Your Background:
  • Ph.D. in economics or finance is preferred.
    • 15+ years of direct work-related experience including management experience.
    • Experience leading diverse groups that produce both academic research and policy analysis.
    • A significant record of conducting in-depth, persuasive, and value-adding research and policy analysis of policy issues relating to financial institutions and/or financial markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements
  • Travel approximately 10-20%.
  • This position will be based in our Chicago office. A hybrid work schedule with Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in person is expected.
  • This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for the information access required for this position and sponsorship for a work visa, and subsequently for permanent residence, if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements. In addition, all candidates must undergo applicable background checks and comply with all applicable information handling rules, and all non-U.S. citizens must sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and pursue a path to citizenship.
