Department Overview

Help us change the electric utility industry from the inside! Join a small, high-performing team within Pacific Gas & Electric Company that is working on a portfolio of exciting and innovative projects to transform the electric grid into a smarter grid. The Grid Innovation team is charting the future of the utility and the energy industry as part of the Engineering, Planning & Strategy division of PG&E.

Grid Innovation evaluates and demonstrates emerging technologies, concepts and processes that PG&E will need to design and operate the resilient energy system of the future. Toward that end, the team works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across the enterprise to design, build and test product strategies, roadmaps and implementation plans for innovation. The current focus of the Grid Innovation team is to build and advance products and processes to operationalize Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) including battery energy storage (BES), Solar PV, microgrids and Remote Grid Solutions.

Position Summary

The Microgrid Strategy and Implementation (MSI) Team is seeking a detail-oriented candidate who embraces curiosity, is driven to continuously learn and grow, and is nimble enough to take on whatever challenges may come our way.  While the day-to-day work may change, the goal is always the same: do whatever is necessary to grow PG&E’s best in class portfolio of microgrid offerings.

The responsibilities of this role can be divided into two primary buckets:

MIP Program Management: This role will partner with the Microgrid Incentive Program Manager (MIP PM) to ensure best in class program management.  Under the guidance of the MIP PM, the successful candidate will execute program administration tasks including financial management and reporting, program development, and leading various program implementation workstreams.

Ad Hoc Tasks: Microgrids touch on nearly every aspect of PG&E’s business, thus leading to an exceptionally diverse portfolio of work for the MSI team.  At the direction of the MSI Sr. Manager, this role will support and/or lead various workstreams that come our way.  Executing such work will typically involve learning aspects of a subject area, process, or skill necessary to understand the workstream/challenge, developing a preferred plan of action, engaging stakeholders and business partners as necessary, and seeing the task through to completion.

We are at the forefront of the microgrid and community resiliency space, creating new policies, programs, standards, and processes, often from whole cloth.  This requires innovative and original thinking.  It requires a learning mindset that embraces challenge.  The ideal candidate would be comfortable being uncomfortable.  They would embrace the unknown as a learning opportunity.  They would rather try and fail than fail to act.  Most of all, they would want to be part of a high-performing group that has a deep sense of shared commitment to each other and our customers.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. Work location will be determined by hiring leader and successful candidate. This position is classified as a “hybrid remote” (0-3 days in the office) and also may require occasional travel within the PG&E service territory to project site locations.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000

Bay Area Maximum: $152,000

And/Or

California Minimum: $97,000

California Maximum: $144,000

This may include validating project schedules, budget, and overall feasibility of projects are reasonable and complete.
