OVERVIEW:
In the Senior State Tax Manager role, you will lead and manage all aspects of State Tax planning and controversy. This role will require you to navigate the complexity of U.S. state income tax rules as they relate to General Mills’ legal entity structure, including partnerships. You will also support state-related advocacy and policy efforts.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Functional Responsibilities:
- Lead, identify, manage, and maintain State Tax planning in close coordination other tax teams as well as business and functional teams
- Direct and manage domestic State Tax compliance
- Lead and manage State Tax process improvement as well as controversy management
- Lead state-related advocacy and policy efforts
- Remain current on State Tax environment and issues, interpret and provide guidance on any new tax laws and the impact on General Mills
- Provide technical tax accounting advice on various State Tax accounting issues (e.g., intercompany transactions, business combinations, valuation allowances, leases and debt instruments, etc.)
- Support the review of certain State Tax forms and required statements
- Management Responsibilities:
- Mentor and support State Tax compliance team
- Collaborate with director/senior manager peers to show leadership to the tax team and collectively help drive team initiatives
- Direct the work of external vendors that assist in State Tax work
- Cross-Functional Responsibilities:
- Partner with local and HQ business and functional leadership regarding all State Tax planning and compliance activities
- Partner with various stakeholders across the business to stay apprised of business priorities and use that knowledge to identify planning opportunities and risk mitigation strategies
- Interact with external parties such as auditors, consultants, and tax compliance advisors
- Communicate with external SEC auditors to answer questions with regards to state and local tax matters in the consolidated financial statements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in tax, accounting, finance, economics or related fields
- At least 5 years experience with heavy emphasis on domestic federal and State Tax
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree (JD, LL.M., MBA, MBT, etc.) in tax, accounting, finance, or related fields
- JD or CPA preferred
- 8 + years domestic federal and State Tax experience with 3+ years of direct management
- Experience in consumer foods industry

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $121700.00 - $182700.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
