We are currently looking for a Senior Research Associate to join us in our mission to save lives and prevent injuries.

 

Position Highlights:

The Senior Research Associate serves as the lead for Workplace Wellbeing-related research projects while supporting other Workplace Programs initiatives (e.g., Campbell Institute, Work to Zero, SAFER) as needed. Under the direction of the program leader, this role will be responsible for developing research strategies and methods, providing technical assistance to other research staff and NSC business units, and assisting in business development, planning, and outreach projects from a research perspective.

What You’ll Do:

Research Initiatives Support (90%)

  • Research Planning - Identify opportunities for future research. Work alongside Workplace program managers and NSC researchers for recommendations on research projects. Liaise with external research partners to co-develop research projects to advance the state of occupational health and safety knowledge and keep people safe. Research, draft, and edit research plans and project proposals for internal and external audiences.
  • Identify and Review Research Information - Use various primary and secondary sources of information (e.g. company policies, procedures, and interviews, library resources, online databases, search engines) to acquire subject knowledge and gather scientific literature and data. Identify, analyze, synthesize, and establish connections among research topics. Use various presentation formats to share research information with internal and external audiences. Write research briefs on various workplace health and safety topics for distribution.
  • Develop Data Collection Tools - Develop various data collection tools such as survey questionnaires, interview guides, and focus group moderator guides. Conduct interviews, administer surveys, and use various research methods to gather the best practices of members and partners on a variety of workplace health and safety-related topics. Use survey development software to create online data collection instruments. Use data collection tools to conduct surveys, reviews of archival records, focus groups, expert panels, and interviews.
  • Performing data analysis – Perform data transfer, storage, cleanup, coding, validation, and other data management functions. Apply statistical techniques to conduct analysis of quantitative data. Perform analysis of qualitative data.
  • Present, Interpret, and Disseminate Findings - Write, and/or edit materials summarizing data collection methods and research findings. Use various software to create charts, graphs, tables, and graphics to present research data and findings. Provide input to senior staff to plan follow-up research activities. Perform activities involved with preparing project documentation. Participate in cross-functional teams to present research and program evaluation information. Work with Marketing to design and publish research white papers, posters, and other materials. Provide assistance with meetings and conferences. As appropriate and safe, travel to meetings, webinars, and conferences to present on research and/or run workshops. Draft and submit research articles to trade/business magazines and peer-reviewed journals for publication. 
  • Support the preparation and submission of proposals for funding.

Impact Measurement Support (5%) 

  • Under supervision, design and develop program evaluation methodologies and tools.
  • Collaborate with internal program owners to implement and execute impact evaluation measurement methodologies.
  • Maintain and identify improvement opportunities for NSC’s internal impact measurement tracking system.
  • Analyze program impact evaluation quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Assist in the development of evaluation reports.
  • Prepare presentations and reports to inform various audiences on all aspects of the program impact evaluation process and results.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

We’re Looking for Someone with: 

  • Master's degree in research, Public Health, Sociology, I/O Psychology, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a similar field and at least 6 years of relevant experience conducting searches and analysis of published scientific literature, using online tools and in-print materials to identify sources of scientific information. OR Bachelor's degree in research, Public Health, Sociology, I/O Psychology, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or similar field and at least 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Grant/proposal writing experience preferred.

  • Professional experience in applied research, program evaluation, policy evaluation, public health and safety, and not-for-profit organizations.

  • Familiarity with program evaluation methodology.

  • Excellent organizational skills with process management and project management experience.

  • Self-motivated and the ability to develop ideas.

  • Comfortable in leading and knowing how to collaborate with others.

  • This is a remote position.

  • The salary for this role is $72,000.
