GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under minimal supervision, responds to complex scientific inquiries and resolves method/instrument issues. The successful candidate will conduct research activities in Food Microbiology and take a leading role in the project "Food-safe antimicrobial coating for reusable packaging to alleviate specialty crop export barriers to EU".
COMMUNICATIONS
Excellent technical writing skills and communicates to encourage others to participate. Seeks input of others to resolve minor problems. Good verbal skills in presenting papers and scientific findings.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Works with industry partners and collaborators in the project. Takes lead in drafting papers/presentations. Develops internal status reports/updates in full draft status.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
PhD degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field although candidates with both Food Microbiology and molecular biology experience will be highly desirable. Recent PhD graduates will be considered.
Knowledge & Skills
Works with minimal supervision, responds to complex queries and is pro-active in seeking a solution. Has good software skills in Word and Excel plus very good attention to detail in conducting and documenting scientific notebooks and papers.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget authority.
May direct up to 5 students on small projects.
Physical Environment and Requirements
100% of time in lab and the balance in an office environment.
