POSITION SUMMARY
Position Title:Senior Research Associate, Discovery Biology
Reports to: Senior Scientist, Discovery Biology
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Summary: We are seeking a creative, dynamic, and driven Senior Research Associate to join our Discovery Biology team at our South San Francisco campus. You will learn and grow alongside various members of Biology/Virology while collaborating across the research organization to conduct and oversee biological testing of novel antivirals.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Independently planning and executing in vitro experiments to identify and characterize small molecules that inhibit viral replication.
- Optimizing and validating cell-based assays to support ongoing discovery projects; training and assisting other colleagues.
- Making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results independently.
- Utilizing data analysis software and MS Office applications to report data to multidisciplinary teams of scientists internally.
- Managing compound inventory and general lab maintenance including reagent preparation and ordering of lab supplies.
Qualifications include:
- BS/MS or equivalent degree in virology or relevant scientific discipline.
- Minimum of five (BS) / three (MS) years of relevant experience in industrial or academic setting.
- Substantial expertise in ensuring safe laboratory practices and maintaining BSL standards.
- Technical expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, and assay development, with strong enthusiasm to quickly develop exciting new technical skills.
- Proficiency in handling a variety of cell lines and primary cells, as well as supporting development of stable cell lines.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art cell biology and molecular biology techniques and approaches including biochemical assays, ELISAs, reporter assays, cell viability assays, viral infection, qPCR, etc.
- Demonstrates expertise in sample handling and storage, bioanalytical assay development, sample analysis, and laboratory operation and procedures.
- Experience with handling pathogenic viruses is preferred (e.g., production of virus, determining viral titer, infection of various mammalian cell lines, etc.)
- Ability to present basic concepts and detailed scientific data to diverse teams and management.
- Independent, driven, and proactive cell biologist and/or molecular virologist who thrives working in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
Pay Range:
$100,000 - $109,000
