Job Purpose
To provide proactive leadership, planning, and oversight of the ABS Project Management Office, ensuring a consistent yet flexible and innovative PM culture throughout American Bible Society (ABS) that achieves the successful completion of projects across the organization. The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will manage the Project Management Office and Project Managers throughout ABS who are working in direct support of all functional areas of the organization. The SPM reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.
The SPM will manage multiple projects with internal ABS teams and in the Ministry, Advancement, and Services areas. The SPM will work with CAO, CEO, and senior leaders to track and manage enterprise-level priorities and projects. Execution elements include: engaging with staff to define and develop strategic project management plans; documenting and tracking project specs, budgets, technologies, and timelines; identifying project gaps and facilitating solutions; ensuring the effective and efficient completion of projects; and maintaining consistent communications across the areas to ensure the collaborative achievement of organizational goals. The SPM will ensure consistency in the approach to project management, best use of resources and guaranteeing timely, efficient, cost-effective projects that are focused on measurable outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Build the overall templates and project management tools for all areas of ABS.
- Serve as the point person for developing high-quality project plans within each area.
- Oversee successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects.
- Establish project strategies, risk management plans, and contingency plans.
- Under the direction of the leader of each area, guide the defining of each program initiative's objectives, scope, charter creation, along with expected deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Manage project teams and coordinate resources to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in line with quality standards.
- Provide each project a strong source of servant leadership, excellent communications, and a focus on what matters.
- Develop and provide regular updates on comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate potential risks and challenges, personally or with other stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards.
- Coordinate and allocate project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Implement effective project tracking systems and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
- Identify and engage key stakeholders, establishing strong working relationships; this includes communicating project updates, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure project success.
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies. This includes proactively addressing project issues and obstacles, and seeking appropriate resolutions.
- Monitor and manage changes in project scope, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and customer expectations.
- Conduct project reviews and evaluations to identify areas for improvement; implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the project management team.
- Ensure that each project is well documented from start to finish.
- Conduct an after-action review after the project is completed and document it, highlighting lessons learned.
Key Traits/Experience/Traits:
- Fervent belief in the mission of ABS
- Passion for the Bible cause and its ability to impact lives
- 5+ years of experience in project management
- 3+ years of experience participating in or managing a PMO
- Demonstrated thought leadership skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively while handling complex projects on various timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and relational skills
- Analytically intuitive and perceptive
- Ability to organize many quickly moving projects
- Ability to maneuver gracefully through complex client relationships
- Ability to provide timely and effective feedback to project staff and team members, as well as facilitating ongoing professional development
Education and/or Training:
- PMP Certified
- Advanced skills in productivity, project tracking, and presentation software
- Experience in successful project management and documentation
- Proficiency in O365 software and Web technologies
- Experience with Christian organizations/ministries
Working Conditions
- Incumbent will work in an environment where a team approach is employed to achieve the accomplishment of projects and tasks. Must be able to work with senior management as well as other levels within the organization. Work is regulated by timeliness and deadlines.
- Hybrid Work location—Current mandatory office days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays
