Description
Hennepin County's Transportation Project Delivery department is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to join the Construction division. This position will work with a team of engineers and engineering technicians to aid in the division's delivery and administration of road and bridge construction projects.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed at the Public Works Facility at 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340, and remote as job duties require. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary depending on projects. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
- Serve as the construction division's lead for developing, procuring, and managing consultant contract administration for road and/or bridge construction projects.
- Act as county liaison with property owners, traveling public, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to disseminate information about construction projects.
- Directly supervise a team, or teams, of technicians working as inspectors and surveyors on road and bridge construction projects.
- Oversee all aspects of the contractors' field activities to ensure successful and timely completion of all work required under the contract.
- Ensure that all documentation required in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency requirements are completed properly and timely.
- Analyze the need for field modifications and other changes to construction contracts and negotiate and prepare the legal contract amendments (i.e. change orders and supplemental agreements).
- Maintain the safety of both the public traveling through construction projects and the county employees working on the project site.
- Actively participate, review, and provide feedback to other Transportation Department divisions during the project development stage of future construction projects.
Need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering or other engineering field appropriate to the position and five years or more of Professional Engineering experience.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Registration or ability to obtain a Minnesota license within six months of hire.
