Job description

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Planner, Senior.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years responsible professional planning experience including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience depending upon area of assignment.

General Description
The Senior Planner at Port Everglades is responsible for assisting with the execution, development and implementation of the Planning Section's work, projects and studies. This position serves as the principal professional and technical resource person for activities that support that the Port's planning goals and objectives are being achieved and thoroughly coordinated with local, regional and state partners and plans in an effort to obtain funding for capital projects.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years responsible professional planning experience including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience depending upon area of assignment.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Port Security Identification Badge for the duration of employment.
Preferences
Additional degree (BS/MS) in related field
Advanced degree in planning or related field
Current Professional planner certification (i.e. AICP)
Current Professional Port Manager (PPM) certification and/or Certified Project Manager (CPM/PMP) related to urban planning
2+ years' experience in grant writing
2 +years' experience in land use and/or environmental planning
4+ years' experience in marine/seaport planning
3+ years' experience in transportation planning and/or airport planning
Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication abilities
Experience in coordinating professional planning projects

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Assists in the research and preparation of annual work programs and budget

Assists with capital grants writing and administration activities

Assists with long and short-range planning, including comprehensive planning, economic impact analyses, parking and traffic analysis, and current planning for the Port

Consults, coordinates, and advises other departments, units, and sections on planning related projects as assigned

Coordinates and makes presentations at public meetings as assigned

Supports the planning manager in ensuring that Port planning goals and objectives are being accomplished

Assists with the preparation of grants applications and grants administration

Assists with planning studies concerning trends and programs for Port development and processes, analyzes and evaluates data

Assists with the preparation and development of the Port master plans

Coordinates all activities with assigned contracts and grants

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
