Form of workThe Health Information Management Department at Department of State Hospitals - Napa is accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Senior Medical Transcriber. This position, under direction from the Staff Services Manager I, will be responsible for supervising staff assigned to the Transcription section of the department who complete medical and other transcription from dictated materials. Duties include but not limited to: transcribing average and difficult dictation accurately involving a variety of medical terms from the dictated materials; gathering data and preparing Continuous Quality Improvement Reports; orienting clinical staff on transcription procedures; monitoring Winscribe dictation system; assigning priorities; and organizing and monitoring work flow within the Transcription section.

The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and repeat health reviews whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job functions.

Effective October 1, 2021, in accordance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) State Public Health Order of August 5, 2021, all workforce members in DSH state hospitals are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination regimen. Prior to your first day, you will be required to fill out a COVID-19 Vaccination Consent Form.
Effective March 1, 2022, in accordance with CDPH State Public Health Order of December 22, 2021, hospital workforce members currently eligible for booster doses must have received their booster dose.
- If you are fully vaccinated, you must provide evidence of vaccination prior to your start date.
- If you are not fully vaccinated, you have the option to receive a vaccine from one of the State Hospitals prior to your start date.
