SCOPE OF POSITION:

 The Senior Operations Manager will lead in the full complement of manufacturing operations with an end-to-end supply chain perspective to fulfill Customer orders on a timely basis - at multiple locations.  This will be accomplished while ensuring high safety and quality standards are continuously upheld.  This also includes the creation, development, expansion, of the Manufacturing Operations Team for all facets of manufacturing operations - including management and development of the Team. Primary focus is to develop manufacturing and core capabilities within CS - including leadership imperatives, leveraging current best practices wherever possible, and to ultimately refine and standardize these capabilities for the overall movement, manufacturing, and coordination of readying finished goods for shipment.  This role is responsible for delivering the finished goods alongside building and executing the strategy, developing the workflow/processes, developing the relationships and interaction with other invested partners both internally and externally, and all oversee building, hiring, and scaling the team. 

This position leads manufacturing of our Platform Solutions business unit.

  • Responsible for the Manufacturing Operations Team and for the delivery of the overall operational metrics, supporting customer service targets, and proactively maintaining a high level of safety in all areas.

  • Maintains compliance with Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping

  • Works with senior leaders in developing/maintaining manufacturing operations business plans to meet customer requirements, resource needs, production costs etc.

  • Work to ensure the highest quality standards are followed and rigorously challenged when needed to support elevation of Customers' needs.

  • Ensure delivery of KPIs including day to day service levels, customer experience, quality measures and monitoring of throughput.

  • Improves/collaborates on operations disciplines including but not limited to safety, productivity, quality, and process engineering utilizing tools such as 5S, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen evaluations

  • Support and drive initiatives to sustain and improve upon ISO requirements, as needed.

  • Responsible for the development of the manufacturing operational talent pool by optimizing the skills of the existing team as well as working to identify external new talent.  Also work to ensure succession planning is in place so that key roles are filled and maintained while individual talent is recognized.

  • To have a well-defined Communication and Engagement model in place to ensure all teams understand the performance of the business (i.e., using Scorecards and Tier 1 boards).

  • The continuous identification and implementation of operational best practice(s) through interaction with the wider team.

  • Motivate and effectively manage Team Managers (Managers, Supervisors, Group Leaders) to ensure delivery of overall targets and customer satisfaction

  • Selecting, effectively managing and coaching Operations Managers.

  • Identifying and highlighting further opportunities for services and process improvements is essential to be a success in this role

  • Ability to demonstrate achievement of results e.g., business improvements, cost savings, revenue generation.

  • Excellent leadership, people management, communication and influencing skills at a senior level.

  • Ability to demonstrate been able to translate business strategy into day-to-day delivery

  • Accountable for overall manufacturing forecast and demand plan accuracy ensuring allotted resources are fully utilized and optimized.  Partner with supporting functions to ensure manufacturing support is aligned with customer expectations

  • Ability to manage and influence key stakeholders.

  • Work to support the implementation of an ERP / TMS system that works alongside customer requirements and further enhances overall manufacturing results and other related operations - including future physical network design (i.e., throughputs and BOM model).

  • Create, develop, and continuously improve upon strategy and structure to ensure proper scalability and returns on financial and time investments for capital projects. Be aware of individual site needs to ensure capital dollars support growth and current business needs.

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Analytics, Business, or significant experience in manufacturing operations (with demonstrating progressive career responsibilities).

  • At least 10 years of fabrication/heavy metals manufacturing experience - with a working knowledge of supply chain, 7 of which have been leading and developing individuals and Team or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Coaching and leadership skills, employee training and development

  • At least 5 years of experience in a large team people-leadership role.

  • An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations

  • Strong background in supporting safety practices - upholding OSHA / regulatory standards alongside CS standards.

  • Familiar with Lean/ Six Sigma/ Continuous Improvement (or similar programs) - certification is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of performance metrics - both in designing them and using them to track performance and opportunities. Customer service metrics, and cost per unit metrics are also beneficiary.

  • Working knowledge in Forecasting, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Procurement, and Materials Management - with emphasis on material availability and scheduling.

  • Experience in developing and implementing manufacturing capabilities, i.e. "Plan B's" to avoid interruptions in providing and excellent Customer Experience.

  • Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate with business stakeholders.

  • Merger/Acquisition/Start up experience is a plus

  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity and change in a start up situation

  • Strong ability to drive collaboration and communication amongst leaders.

  • Ability to read blueprints and contract documents

  • Experience managing Cost of Sales

  • Experience with MPS/MRP systems.

  • SAP, Oracle ERP/SCM or Oracle EBS r11 or r12 (Cloud is a plus).

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Ability to travel - up to 20% may be expected.
