About the Position
Foursquare is looking for aSenior Manager, Engineering to join our team! While we would prefer candidates based in or around our office hubs in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, or San Francisco, we're also open to considering remote applicants for this role.
About the team:
Platform Engineering develops, delivers, and operates a software and cloud services platform that enables engineering teams to iterate with velocity, repeatability, scrutability, and quality. Our platform includes a curated AWS environment, IAM, EKS for microservices, and a suite of preferred technology and patterns for build, deploy, observability, pipeline orchestration, and data discovery, scrubbing, ingestion, delivery, and validation. In short, we build the stuff that allows product engineers and data scientists to spend more time delivering value to customers and less time on underlying systems and frameworks.
About the role:
As a Senior Manager on the Platform Engineering team, you'll report directly to the VP of Engineering for Platform, and will work with your team, peers, Product Managers and Staff+ Engineers to set technology strategy and direction for the Platform Engineering organization and the Developer Experience team specifically. You will be responsible for setting the team technical direction and roadmaps, and making sure the right processes are in place to help the team deliver. You will directly drive strategic projects through leadership and individual contribution, and help to cultivate the growth of the engineers on the team and their career paths at Foursquare. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities to improve our platform from the perspective of our users, and an awareness of how the capabilities and performance of the platform influence outcomes all the way through to external customer experience.
What you’ll need
- 3+ years experience managing an engineering team
- Proven ability to maintain and improve employee engagement, aligning teams toward company goals and vision
- Proficient in capacity planning and quarterly roadmapping, working alongside Product Management to set the direction for the team
- Strong product mindset and perspective, able to evaluate decisions from a User’s point of view
- Understanding of and experience with Devops and Platform Engineering practices and technologies, to include informed opinions regarding the tools, systems, and processes to maximize developer velocity and minimize friction and complexity, with a focus on the areas of build, test, and deploy

At Foursquare, we are committed to providing competitive pay and benefits that are in line with industry and market standards. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, and specific office location.
The annual total cash compensation range is $152,000 - 251,750, howeveractual salaries can vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills and competencies, as well as location.
Salary is just one component of Foursquare’s total compensation package, which includes restricted stock units, multiple health insurance options, and a wide range of benefits!
