Position Summary: (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

United Way Worldwide is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Senior Manager of Accounting to lead our accounting team in maintaining financial integrity and supporting the organization's mission. This key leadership role will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and audit readiness. The Senior Manager of Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely financial information while providing guidance and mentorship to a team of accounting professionals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in nonprofit accounting, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for making a difference in communities around the world.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Duties of Position:

  • Oversee the general ledger and ensure a timely monthly close;
  • Responsible for generating the monthly financial statements and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness;
  • Support the Controller with the annual independent audits (financial statement, Pension Plan, and 403(b);
  • Support the preparation of the annual Form 990 tax return and related state returns;
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments within UWW for various projects and initiatives;
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining effective policies and procedures that reflect well-balanced internal controls;
  • Develop a high-performing Accounting Team;
  • Participate in various business processes and technology integration initiatives;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Reports directly to the Controller and supervise at least one direct report.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
  • CPA preferred but not required;
  • Three years of supervisory experience;
  • Willingness to be hands on and work closely with the details, prepare complex journal entries;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Ability to support big picture goals while maintaining day-to-day tasks;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization;
  • Maintain high personal integrity and strong work ethic;
  • Experience with NetSuite preferred but not required.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $110,000 to $120,000 per year. Salaries are determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.

Serves as a role model in dealing with others to accomplish organization goals and objectives. Works effectively with United Way staff, volunteers and other stakeholders to achieve strategic direction. Able to manage and sustain key relationships to benefit the United Way movement and/or UWW. Formulates and communicates in an ethical and politically sensitive manner.

Communications - Expresses ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner. Is persuasive and influences others. Actively listens to others to understand their perspectives. Seeks input and feedback on individual, team and departmental performance and environment. Supports openness.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical prowess, and effective communication skills to derive actionable insights from complex datasets. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to strategic decision-making processes by harnessing the power of data lake technologies and predictive analytics tools.
