Senior HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Specialist - Row Crops - Tucson AZ
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) Specialist, you will support the design, implementation and execution of occupational health, safety, and Environmental Management System at the Marana Greenhouse site. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate, influence and lead multifunctional teams, including interactions with the Business, Site and Functional personnel at all levels of Bayer's organization, including: leadership, operational, and technical personnel.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior HSE Specialist, are to:
- Lead in the day to day and influencing a safety first culture by ensuring peers and partners understand the core value of a strong safety mentality;
- Lead and develop team members safety culture at the site thru mentoring, coaching and how to maintain a healthy working environment;
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for safety and environmental programs (OSHA, DOH, EPA, etc.) and guide, mentor, train and coach Program Owners and site personnel (~150EE) to ensure overall compliance of specific safety programs;
- Ensure the license to operate for the site by compliance with regulation and the corporate requirements related to the environment, safety and occupational medicine;
- Participate in facility HSE compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments, including participation/leading during corporate audits;
- Collaborate cross-functionally with multi-disciplinary groups, such as Site Lead, Regional HSE and technical personnel to establish cost effective and appropriate measures to reduce risks, comply with safety and health regulations, and to realize established production objectives;
- Work with sites to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility compliance to regulatory and company requirements, including development of site HSE personnel;
- Actively champion the collection, dissemination, and execution of best practice sharing within the site, also leveraging learnings from other sites globally. Act as a change agent to effectively identify, communicate, and further evolve continuous improvement efforts with the intent to increase efficiency and reduce risks at the site;
- Ensure completion of incident investigations, root cause analysis, and trend analysis for incidents, including the identification of corrective actions, tracking actions to completion, and verification of the effectiveness of actions taken;
- Support preparation of environmental permits and reports to ensure compliance with the operation air permits, waste management, worker protection standard, pesticide management and other pertinent internal and external compliance requirements;
- Provide technical and functional support for capital projects, new equipment purchases, expansions, mergers & acquisitions, divestments, and expense spending related to site improvement plans;
- Influence key partners in a cross-functional environment to drive results, innovation, and collaboration at multi-functional sites;
- Collaborate with HSE Coordinators, Specialists and Technicians across the state to ensure compliance, consistency and use of best practices;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree;
- Professional experience related to HSE within the agricultural, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, research, healthcare or chemical industry;
- Outstanding leadership & communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence others through oral or written means;
- Demonstrated decision-making ability & problem-solving skills;
- Technical experience or basic knowledge/acumen with OSHA & EPA requirement;
- Valid driver's license. For this role you may be asked to drive a Bayer Pool Vehicle. As such, your driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet and maintain guidelines based on the company's Risk Screening for Drivers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or Safety management, or related field;
- 4 years of progressive professional experience related to HSE within the agricultural, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, research, healthcare or chemical industry;
- Professional designation or certifications (CSP, RSO, CIH,CHMM, etc.) ;
- Influencing through peer leadership or leadership experience;
- Technical experience and acumen with OSHA, EPA, and/or State Specific requirements that impact Bayer operations;
- Experience using and implementing an HSE Management System (like ISO).
