Position Overview:
The Senior Financial Analyst is a key contributor to Motiva's financial operations, specializing in the monthly period-end accounting processes. This role involves collaborating with business units, managing accounting entries, configuring systems, and overseeing the month-end close process. The analyst is responsible for creating analytical schedules, comments, and assisting with quarterly disclosures, as well as contributing to the design and documentation of controls. This position will report directly into the General Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive expertise in activities related to Period End Processing for Motiva.
- Monitor and assess internal controls over the period-end process, proposing control changes to adapt to evolving business operations and processes.
- Provide leadership for process enhancements aimed at reducing manual processing, minimizing errors in the closing process, and accommodating changes in business operations and financial reporting/accounting requirements.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of closing activities in each accounting period.
- Serve as the PE expert, responsible for ensuring the accuracy of Motiva's closing activities.
- Demonstrate expert-level knowledge of SAP/Run Book.
- Create new tasks/steps in SAP/Run Book as necessary.
- Understand and validate the completeness and accuracy of closing step outputs.
- Troubleshoot and recommend solutions in the event of errors.
- Prepare, review, and provide insightful commentary on monthly PE activities.
- Collaborate with the Financial Reporting Team to align Motiva's Monthly close schedule with reporting timelines to the parent company.
- Train and develop other General Accounting Team members for PE tasks and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with outsourced PE personnel to ensure the completeness and accuracy of all monthly tasks.
- Monitor monthly tasks to ensure their timely completion for closing the accounting period.
- Capture relevant information from internal and external sources and synthesize the information with existing knowledge into deeper understanding.
- Challenge the assumptions and reliability of acquired information.
- Interact with other finance teams to assist with managing closing activities.
- Build networks for knowledge transfer across the business.
Experience and Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; advanced degree preferred..
- 8-10 years of experience in accounting/finance.
- Understanding of accounting concepts under US GAAP and IFRS.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
- Expert level knowledge of SAP/Run Book (required).
