Our client, a leader in the energy industry, has the following full time position open:
The Electrical Designer works on various projects as assigned by the Discipline Team Leader or Engineering Manager. He/she may oversee the entire design process or assist as a lead designer on a specialized design. The Senior Electrical Designer may work with various Project Managers on several concurrent projects.
The Electrical Designer is an experienced designer who specializes in one engineering discipline such as civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, control, etc. and has gained extensive knowledge in design interfaces with other design disciplines. The Electrical Designer works under minimal supervision, may perform as a project lead designer, and helps in development of junior design staff.
The Electrical Designer reports administrative activities to the Discipline Team Leader and reports project activities to the assigned Project Manager.
Typical Duties
The Electrical Designer does project work under direction of the project lead engineer or Project Manager.
1. Responsible for the project design & drafting requirements of the 480V and PLC panel layout.
2. Keep Team Leader informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
3. Assure that drawings and designs are in accordance with company standards and client design/drafting standards.
4. Prepare discipline design drawings package per scope of work
5. Prepare design sketches and provide design directions to junior design staff.
6. Assist Project Lead Engineer or Project Manager in some engineering tasks (depending on project size & complexity) including:
a. Participate in design review
b. Prepare cost estimates
c. Procure materials
d. Review shop drawings
e. Prepare construction bid package
7. Provide construction design support
8. Perform QA/QC review for the design work or design/drafting peers review.
Marketing Responsibilities
1. Assist Marketing Manager or Project Managers in proposal development, schedule and design cost estimates relating to the design discipline.
Qualifications
1. Associate Degree or equivalent and minimum twelve years of related design experience, plus good field experience; or minimum three years experience as a Senior Designer.
2. Good knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards for the practice discipline.
3. Familiar with some engineering tasks and activities.
4. Computer skills include CADD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, and Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
5. Must be able to prepare the design using CADD program.
6. Good Communication Skills
7. Encouraged to review periodically professional trade magazines/books to keep current on the design specialty and industry news.
