Job Summary
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols to address workplace hazards/accidents to protect employee health and safety and promote environmental compliance in a unionized manufacturing environment.
Job Duties
Manage plant safety and environment programs, hygiene, and ergonomics towards a common goal of disciplined compliance and quality excellence.
Provide technical and administrative guidance to ensure compliance, standard safe work practices, and implementing improvements to the company health and safety manual/module. Coach, develop and support staff to ensure they have necessary resources, tools, and supportive feedback to optimize performance.
Champion the design, implementation and management of a comprehensive Occupational Safety Management System (OHSMS) that focuses on governance, assurance, and risk management.
Analyze, interpret and report on strategic metrics and performance indicators of EHS management system effectiveness and continuous improvement through action plans, execution and assessment.
Perform audits within facility or processes to identify risks and proactively develop and implement corrective actions.
Monitor and facilitate closure of all action items resulting from audits, internal reviews, incident investigations and recommendations.
Coordinate with all levels of management to develop and implement long term compliance strategies and industry best practices.
Manage EHS compliance related vendor relationships.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, or local regulations.
Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately.
Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.).
Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in health & safety or related discipline required; Masters, plus.
10+ years of relevant work experience (management system, compliance, processes, operation project execution) in a product safety role.
Comprehensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety data software/applications or database.
Knowledgeable in safety and environmental requirements and practices (i.e., OSHA, ADEM, H2S, etc.).
Strong leadership skills and use of subject matter expertise to problem solve, analyze and/or decision making.
Robust or practical knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Quality Management System
Ability to prioritize daily tasks, respond to interruptions and meet deadlines.
Passionate about promoting a culture of safety and health in the workplace.
Competencies/ Skills
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to articulate the value proposition of Risk Management activities in correlation to departments to gain support and buy-in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint platform.
Leadership skills
Foster teamwork within the compliance program and provide support to all internal and external customers.
Ability to identify and seek needed information through qualitative/quantitative research
