Overview
Gordon-Conwell is a multi-denominational, evangelical Protestant
graduate school, unique with its broad array of over 2100 students and 200 faculty and staff from
98 denominations and 64 countries. Our four campuses include a residential model of education
at South Hamilton, MA (our main campus); an urban context offering classes in multiple
languages in downtown Boston, MA; and adult educational models in both our Charlotte, NC
campus and our offerings in Jacksonville, FL.
Our mission is to prepare men and women for ministry at home and abroad. Rooted in the gospel
and God’s Word, the seminary seeks to develop Christian leaders who are thoughtful, globally
aware, spiritually mature, and ready for a broad array of ministries. While being historically
orthodox and evangelical, we seek to address the issues of our times with both relevance to the
culture and faithfulness to Christ and God’s truthful Word.
Position Summary
We are seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as Senior Director of
Technology Services. This crucial role oversees a team of dedicated professionals, shapes the
strategic direction of our technology infrastructure, and ensures robust and innovative support
for faculty, staff, and students across all campuses. You will be responsible for fostering a culture
of excellence, driving operational efficiency, and leveraging technology to advance the
seminary's mission of preparing transformative Christian leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Vision
- Lead and inspire a team comprising of an assistant director, staff managers, technical
staff, and student workers. Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and service-oriented
culture within Technology Services.
- Develop and implement long-term technology strategies aligned with the seminary's
mission, goals, and evolving needs. Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to
identify priorities and ensure technology investments contribute to institutional success.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends, identifying and evaluating
opportunities to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative processes. Champion
innovation and guide the adoption of solutions that advance the Seminary's mission.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students, serving as a
trusted advisor and advocate for their technology needs.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee the efficient and effective operation of all IT and AV systems and services
across all campuses, including the Service Desk. Ensure consistent, reliable, and secure
technology access for all users.
- Manage vendor relationships. Fostering collaboration and resolving issues effectively.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors. Ensuring competitive pricing and favorable terms for
the seminary.
- Manage Technology Services budgets effectively, identifying opportunities for cost
optimization and resource allocation based on strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that govern technology use, ensuring
compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Partner with the CIO/VP of Strategy to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and
measure the impact of Technology investments.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with campus leadership, faculty, staff, and students to understand
their needs and develop technology solutions that meet their goals.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with stakeholders, providing regular
updates on technology initiatives and addressing concerns promptly.
- Build strong relationships with vendors and external partners, ensuring optimal
performance and cost-effectiveness of Technology solutions.
Key Competencies
Commitment to Gordon-Conwell's mission and values, and a willingness to accept and
uphold the seminary's Christian faith and community statement.
- 10+ years of experience in IT management, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., Technology, Computer Science) or equivalent
experience. Master’s degree in business or technology is preferred.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to inspire,
motivate, and coach others.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate complex
technical concepts into clear and concise language.
- Experience with ITIL and ITSM principles a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and experience managing Service Desk
operations preferred.
