This position will be working at our Headquarters Building in North Austin (183/Oak Knoll). This position does not offer the opportunity to work remotely at this time.


As our Senior Director of Human Resources, you will play a vital role in supporting and guiding our HR team. Our ideal candidate has proven leadership skills and a diverse background in managing multiple HR functions within a corporate setting. You will have a proven track record in developing top-notch HR metrics, processes, and value-added solutions that have contributed to the growth and success of a department and organization. In this role, you will oversee and maintain an advanced HR Information System (HRIS) that enhances HR operations, increases data and reporting analysis capabilities, and facilitates informed decision-making. Your expertise and business acumen will be highly valued as you bring creative ideas and resources to help the department achieve its goals and drive HR strategy.


What you will do:

Under the direction of the VP of HR, you will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department. You will provide tactical and operational support through the effective strategic executionof Human Resources policies, programs, systems, processes and services. You will act as the subject matter expert in various areas of HR, including but not limited to employee relations, payroll, compensation, benefits and leave administration, performance management, talent acquisition and legal regulatory compliance.

In addition, you will provide guidance and support to managers and employees throughout the organization to ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. Your strategic mindset will be crucial in managing programs, leading and mentoring the HR team, and driving the department's success in collaboration with the VP of Human Resources.


Lead, coach, and develop HR team members to build and foster a high performing, results driven HR team.

Strategic Execution - Collaborate with the VP Human Resources to plan, develop and implement a clearly defined departmental budget and strategic roadmap for Human Resources operations with initiatives that align with organizational strategies and growth.

Payroll Administration - Manage the bi-weekly payroll function by assisting HR staff with the processing of employee payroll, auditing and ensuring payroll is accurate.

HRIS Administration - Continuously analyze the Credit Union's HRIS system to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness for the department and organization. Provide recommendations to develop, modify, and automate processes and procedures for change to the VP of HR, as needed.

Benefits & Leave Administration - Administer and Manage leave programs including FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation and Short-Term Disability processes to ensure compliance with federal/state laws.

  • Evaluate and ensure benefit plans are administered consistently and in accordance with plan documents, and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Act as liaison between all benefit providers and the Credit Union, managing the full life cycle of the Open Enrollment Process.
  • Manage annual ACA reporting requirements including PCORI fees, Form 1095-C, Form 1094-C.

Employee Relations - Effectively communicate with management to provide proper direction and guidance on employment issues including disciplinary actions, behavior and conduct issues, terminations, leave administration, workplace conflict and other HR related issues. Escalate complex situations to VP of HR, as needed.

Performance Management - Oversee the annual evaluation process including merit increases. Design, build, and implement performance management programs that drive employee engagement and retention.

Employee Handbook - Review, update, and implement necessary changes to the Employee Handbook in partnership with the VP of HR. Update employees and managers on any changes to ensure compliance with policies as outlined.

Job Descriptions - Create job descriptions for new positions and update/revise when needed for existing positions by partnering with managers to ensure information is accurate and kept up-to-date. Perform market salary analysis on positions and provide recommendations to the VP of HR on pay for positions and salary grade.

Talent Acquisition - Provide direction and support to the TA team in the full life cycle of recruiting for both internal and external candidates. Partner with the VP of HR to assess, implement, and maintain key metrics to set measurable goals and monitor talent acquisition activity results.

HR Projects - Partner with the VP of HR to identify, develop, and implement new process and process improvements for the HR Team and UHCU to support a culture of innovation and change.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect and professionalism.
  • Travel to other branches and work locations within the Austin and Tyler area is required based on business need.

Here is what you will bring to our HR Team:

An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or other related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated Human Resources experience within a fast-paced environment with an increasing level of responsibility related to a broad range of HR functions, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, payroll and HRIS administration, employee relations and talent acquisition.
  • Minimum 2 years in a Human Resources management-level role with responsibility for creating functional strategies and objectives for direct and indirect reports, while also including a hands-on focus for tactical and operational objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising fully remote and/or hybrid employees.
  • Experience researching, reviewing, creating, and maintaining key organizational and legal documents, including job descriptions for each position and the employee handbook.
  • Demonstrated expertise administering health and retirement benefits and managing the execution of an advanced full-cycle open enrollment process.
  • Exceptional knowledge and demonstrated experience with state and federal employment laws and regulations pertaining to benefits, compensation, payroll, and leave of absence administration (e.g., FMLA, ADA, ACA, COBRA, EEO, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing full-cycle payroll processing, servicing 200+ employees utilizing a modern HRIS (e.g., ADP Workforce Now).
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to think critically and anticipate issues before they arise. Verbal and written communication skills with ability to work collaboratively and supportively with individuals, groups, management, and other organizational units to achieve business strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and data manipulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's of Business Administration (MBA), Human Resources, or advanced degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in a financial institution or related industry with responsibilities related to developing and implementing large-scale Human Resources initiatives.
  • 3+ years of management experience with responsibility for creating functional strategies and specific objectives for a Human Resources team; including responsibilities for coaching, mentoring, developing and motivating staff.
  • Experience scaling and managing a Human Resources team with at least 5 direct/indirect reports.
  • Experience developing and monitoring HR metrics and organizational dashboards (e.g., Smartsheet) to support planning and decision making.
  • Demonstrated expertise with HRIS database management, advanced reporting, analysis, audits, compensation market data systems, engagement and performance management systems.
  • Experience with project management platforms and tools such as Smartsheet, Zoom, and WebEx.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or other related HRIS/Payroll systems.
  • Experience with Applicant Pool or other related Applicant Tracking Systems.
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRMCP/SCP certification.
