JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our team. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining databases for our customers, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. You will work closely with development teams for our customers to design and implement efficient database solutions that meet their business needs.
DUTIES
- Design, implement, and maintain database systems and schemas
- Monitor database performance and optimize queries for maximum efficiency
- Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions
- Collaborate with development team to design and implement database changes
- Ensure data integrity and security by implementing appropriate access controls
- Develop and maintain documentation related to database systems and processes
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in database administration
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 10-years experience as a Database Administrator in a mission-critical production environment. This includes a strong background in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.
- Minimum 10-years experience with database management and monitoring software, such as Oracle Enterprise Manager Database/Grid Control and/or SQL Server Enterprise Manager and Nagios.
- Experience with Oracle (from 10g to 21c) and Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2000 thru 2019).
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL or MariaDB a plus.
- Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure and OCS a plus.
- Experience with SQL/T-SQL, PL/SQL, SSH, PowerShell and Linux/Unix scripting, backup and recovery, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and data extraction/loading utilities.
- Experience with storage specification/design/troubleshooting, server design, and capacity planning.
- Great working knowledge and experience with Windows, Linux/Unix, physical and virtual environments.
- Excellent technical documentation skills and ability to write proper customer correspondence and executive level literature.
- Elite communication skills as it relates to corresponding with customers via email and telephone.
- Firm grasp of concepts as it relates to additional options of Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL. Candidate should know what these tools are, how they work, and what they are used for. General examples include: Clustering, Virtualization, Replication, and Standby Databases.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Oracle® Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
- Microsoft® Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification.
- Amazon AWS Certified (Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator).
- Experience with Oracle Data Guard/Standby Database, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Fail Safe, Oracle Advanced Replication/Streams, Oracle Text or Partitioning.
- Experience with various database replication features, log shipping or full text search.
- Experience with various third party DBMS Management tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support for mission-critical database systems.
- Perform installations, upgrades and apply patches to databases running on Windows and Linux/Unix platforms.
- Implementation and management of database objects including data files, tables, indexes, triggers, integrity constraints, materialized views, jobs and database roles/permissions.
- Extensive performance tuning against mission-critical databases using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Design and implement operational automation using scripts.
- Design database performance specifications, database backup and recovery plans, and database performance/capacity models including server capacity plans.
- Assist in recommendation and design phases of database architectures including hardware, software, and the environment architectures thereof.
- Willingness to learn new skills as it pertains to various database platforms, be able to grasp those concepts quickly, and implement them for customers.
- Extensive communications with customers and internal staff.
