The primary purpose of the Senior Communications Specialist position is to support the institutional internal communications strategy through developing and managing content for and structure of MD Anderson's internal website, Inside MD Anderson. The ideal candidate will bring expertise using a content management system such as SharePoint. Strong proofreading and editing skills are required, in addition to experience training others on using the content management systems. This candidate will demonstrate curiosity, tenacity and drive in their approach to their work.

This position will be remote, but may require occasional travel to Houston for onsite events/meetings as needed.
Job Functions
Intranet Content Development:
- Successfully consults, develops, manages and measures intranet content.
- Proactively ensures content is accurate, current, not duplicated, consistent and reflective of messaging and content strategy.
- Optimizes content layout for desktop and mobile and ensures web accessibility standards are met.
Project Management and Measurement.
- Works with customers to effectively define, initiate and implement web communications projects.
- Routinely attends meetings with clients and leadership and is available for consultation.
- Works with Information Services to evolve intranet and resolve technical issues.
- Tracks and analyzes success of web communications, provides status reports and identifies as well as solves potential problems.
Support and Training:
- Provides one-on-one technical, editorial and design support to decentralized editors via live virtual sessions and written exchanges through email or instant message.
- Updates written training materials and leads live virtual group training sessions, as needed
Writing and Editing:
- Clear, consistent writing and editing in all work product.
- Command of Associated Press style, as well as MD Anderson style.
- Able to translate complex information to a level that can be understood by a variety of audiences.
Other duties as assigned
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Experience
Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
