Job SummaryReporting to the Director of Editorial Content (Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs), the Senior Writer & Marketing-Communications Manager will be a skillful and experienced storyteller with a proven ability to produce content that engages an array of audiences and builds brand awareness, reputation, and pride in UT Southwestern. This job will perform versatile writing and content creation between in-depth articles about clinical advances and scientific achievements and web copy for external audiences, executive communications, and messaging to patients, media, and referring providers.
Exceptional writing and editing skills required.
This position falls under a hybrid work schedule that includes 2 days per week on campus.
Required Experience and EducationRequired Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field and at least five (5) years of experience writing, preferably in health care, higher education, or an academic medicine setting.

PreferredMaster's degree in related field and strong editing and project management skills preferred.
Experience with medical and science writing is a plus.
Job Duties- As an individual contributor, researches, writes, and edits dynamic content that highlights UTSW's clinical and scientific expertise for a patient and/or provider audience.
- Interviews UTSW subject matter experts to convey their knowledge of key topics in compelling and accessible language in editorial-style articles.
- Writes well-crafted, on-brand, and accurate copy for news releases, in-depth feature stories, video scripts, ad campaigns, social media posts, video scripts, newsletters, and messaging to internal and external audiences.
- Develops creative, focused ideas that reflect the strategic priorities of UTSW and employ the most effective storytelling methods.
- Writes executive communications that capture the voice and tone of leadership while engaging the targeted audience.
- Creates content that will generate interest and build audience on social media platforms.
- Manages digital content and ensure that it is consistent with UTSW voice, style, and tone.
- Works cross-functionally with teams in marketing, multimedia, social media, public relations, and internal communications to sharpen messaging and produce supporting creative collateral.
- Positions faculty, staff, learners, trainees, and administrative leadership in ways that reflect UT Southwestern's standards of excellence.
- Incorporates audience engagement metrics and search engine optimization into story development and writing processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
