Job description

Company Overview

Founded in 1990, Kauffman & Associates, Inc. (KAI), is an American Indian– and woman-owned management consulting firm dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations and enhancing the reach and effectiveness of social sector organizations. We combine stories of lived experiences with meaningful, data-driven insights to reach underserved communities. We work closely with federal, tribal, state, and regional governments; associations; foundations; and private-sector businesses. At KAI, we do work that matters!

Senior Behavioral Health Advisor

The Senior Behavioral Health (SBH) Advisor is a key member of the Behavioral Health Transformation (BHT) team and will assist Technical Assistance (TA) Specialists and tribal grantee partners with resources to address mental and substance use challenges in Indian Country. The SBH Advisor provides expertise on Native substance use addiction approaches to prevention, treatment, and recovery, and Native strengths and emotional challenges that encourage or impede wellness and recovery. The SBH Advisor provides guidance, content knowledge, and strategic direction to understand health disparities, Native recovery resources, and tactics for improving outcomes.

The SBH Advisor position provides expert Native mental health and substance use content knowledge to the KAI BHT team, who in turn assist local community change through support to portfolios of tribal and urban Indian grantee partners. The SBH Advisor will serve as a point person and thought partner with representatives from federal, state, and county health agencies addressing Behavioral Health issues in Indian Country.

The SBH Advisor supports the BHT team with building awareness and understanding about prevention, treatment, and recovery from mental and substance use disorders, so Native individuals, their families, and communities can thrive, remain healthy, self-directed, contributing members within a social environment, and achieve their full potential. The SBH Advisor is responsible for meeting professional expectations for high quality, on-time, and on-budget contract deliverables. This position reports to the Vice President for BHT.

Provide specific support, guidance, and assistance to BHT Project Managers for project implementation and high quality TTA delivery to assigned portfolios of grantees.
  • Serve as a readily available resource for TA Specialists and their assigned portfolios of grantees to aid with TTA Plans, readiness-for-change assessments, and advancement of grantee substance use programming goals.
  • Develop and support for customized resources and work products for mental and substance use challenges (e.g., toolkit, brochures, fact sheets, flyers, posters, drop-in articles, blog posts, tweets, Facebook updates, web banner ads, webpages).
  • Participate in regular KAI internal project meetings, meetings with tribal health initiative teams, cross-team meetings with state and local county partners, and other efforts of coordination.
