The Senior Accounting position is a robust role in the Accounting and Financial department. The ideal candidate will need to have the knowledge and experience in STAT/GAAP insurance accounting, month end closing, as well as a passion to learn, grow, and upskill.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for monthly reinsurance loss accounting journal entries and reconciliations
- Full responsibility of invoice billing and incoming cash tracking related to reinsurance
- Responsible for monthly investment accounting journal entries and reconciliations
- Prepares quarterly and annual NAIC statements and files with state insurance departments and regulatory agencies as required. Keeps up to date with current accounting rules and regulations and proposes changes to Director and Controller based on knowledge of these rules
- Coordinate and work with other accountants to close the month efficiently and effectively within 8 business days
- Prepares complex accounting schedules to calculate financial statement inputs. Schedules may include, but are not limited to, claim payments and reserve changes, ceded premium and loss calculations, earned premium and deferred underwriting expenses, and investment reconciliations
- Analyzes financial data for accuracy and completeness. Researches and resolves discrepancies independently
- Complete ad hoc reporting for leadership as requested
- Partner with department heads from other units and leverage data analysis tools to drive continuous improvement of our accounting processes
Requirements:
- Accounting degree and 3-5 years of related insurance experience
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word
- Reinsurance working knowledge required
- Investment accounting experience preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter, with strong interpersonal, teamwork, analytical, and partnering skills
- Ability to complete new assignments with minimal guidance
