The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Accountant, Finance Operations in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas.

 

This position will work in a hybrid setting (in office 2-3 days a week) in our Dallas office.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing accounting support to the assigned region or business unit for activities including financial reporting, accounting consultation, interim reporting, and various analyses. Additional responsibilities include reviewing monthly reconciliation and analyzing financial statements, preparing annual budget, year-end audit schedules, and analyses associated with internal policy compliance.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Review reconciliations and provide comments to General Ledger and Revenue groups for clearing open items.
  • Prepare financial documents for assigned region(s) and assigned audit work papers for the annual audit. Work with internal and external auditors for supporting documentation as requested.
  • Review restricted account activity and connect with field/department staff to correct where needed. Prepare restricted release analyses quarterly for assigned region(s)/NC area. Prepare adjusting entries as needed.
  • Provide qualitative financial reporting and variance analyses monthly for assigned region(s)/NC area.
  • Monitor customer service requests, respond timely and prepare associated entries for review and posting.
  • Assist with the annual budget process by preparing relevant budget/projection templates including projecting time releases and depreciation.
  • Provide excellent customer service, timely and effectively.
  • Review expense disbursements on a weekly basis for proper account coding and connect with field staff and management to ensure expenses are recorded accurately.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Region SVP/VP/Director of Operations/Finance, including Revenue Accountant and other finance team members.
  • Provide ad hoc consultation to SVPs/NC departments as issues arise (i.e., new programs/initiatives, field requests).
  • Lead and work with Sr. Manager GL to drive the period-close process (Monthly/Yearly) and coordinate entries/tasks.
  • Facilitate the year-end Audit PBC schedules preparation and presentation to external auditors.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in:
    • Accounting or Finance
    • Interpreting GAAP and applying the rules to business practices
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial reporting, analysis, general ledger accounting, and budget preparation.
  • Skilled in use and management of automated accounting systems (JDE EnterpriseOne and/or Hyperion Essbase preferred).
  • Ability to analyze financial data and interpret into narrative form.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of annual audit practices.
  • Skilled in balancing multiple projects and working against deadlines to provide end product.
  • Skilled in using spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent in oral and written communication with the ability to connect with all levels of Association staff. Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to think logically and grasp ambitious opportunities.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Nonprofit accounting experience.
