Position Objective
This 2024 seasonal position offers a hands-on learning experience in the field of civil engineering in our Highway Department. Work closely with our county engineering staff and be part of building and maintaining the County's network of roads and bridges.
This is a skilled, technical field and office position serving as an assistant to Engineering Technicians and Sr. Engineering Technicians relating to survey crew work, data entry, quality assurance testing of materials in construction and other related engineering and construction assignments.
Possible internship opportunity available.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position in this classification.
- Performs and/or assists with quality assurance testing and inspection for gravel/aggregate production work, grading and base work, bituminous work, concrete work, and other related activities during construction of highways and other types of engineering work.
- Works on survey crew assisting with staking and related work.
- Performs engineering and data research in the field and office, and other office work related to engineering as required such as preparing easements, construction specifications, technical reports, and permits.
- Operates various office engineering equipment and instruments such as engineering and related software, calculators, plotters and other equipment necessary in performing highway design and other engineering related design work.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid state issued driver's license.
Desirable Qualifications
- Post secondary training in one or more of the following: Surveying, drafting, math, geography, construction materials, and highway design.
- Post-secondary degree in an accredited civil engineering or civil technology program.
- Minimal experience in the construction engineering field
